I did a little scrappy shopping over Labor Day Weekend.
My favorite find is the Webster’s Pages “Dream in Color” enamel dots.
This is one of those times when seeing something in person clinches the sale. If I had seen these on Amazon . . .
. . . they wouldn’t really have caught my eye. But in person, they are sooooo cute! Granted, those glittery gold dots will probably end up in the trash; I am SO over gold. I mean, I was never ON it but I’m so OVER it. There’s just no love for silver and I don’t get it.
Anyhow, I got those beauties at Beverly’s Crafts and paid full price. I had already used a coupon in the transaction – to get 3 WRMK 12×12 albums for the price of 2. What, WHUUUUTTT? That made them only $20 each instead of $30 so I was okay paying full price for some dots :) But you KNOW I tried to use another coupon. Foiled again!
The other 2 items were from Michaels and they weren’t on sale but I got a little discount on ’em. The cashier entered the coupon for 20% of my total purchase, so that was awesome.
I already have a set of the blue and green dots but those are colors I scrap a lot with. And the Heidi Swapp“Puffy Stickers” are super cute. I just adore her handwriting. She could write “Parcheesi” or “Batmobile” and I would buy them, even though I will never scrapbook a thing on those topics.
More to come on some Project Life stuff I bought . . . will be selling off some of it, if you’re interested!
Becky Higgins has released a new Project Life line called “Sweet Edition.”
She did a Periscope showing it off HERE. {Video is unlisted so I can’t share it here; you have to visit YouTube}.
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of this line – it’s cute and unique, just not my style. But the video was fun to watch. Becky is such a fun and self-deprecating person. Her videos are casual and welcoming to all.
If you’re wondering whatever happened to the Project Life card storage thingee, she addresses that and other questions straight from viewers.
Bonus: Learn how Becky does her cute hairstyle HERE.
If you’re a Scrapbook Obsession Newsletter subscriber, you’ve already heard that today is the day for sneak peeks of Lisa Bearnson’s new line called “Anthology.”
Time to See the Sneaks, Y’All
You can check them out HERE – then come right back, please :) I’ll wait patiently.
.
.
.
Okay, so what do you think so far? Pretty nice start, huh? These are basics we all need in our scrapbooking – luscious textured cardstock in 7 packs with 53 colors including neutrals – and D-ring binders – woot!
K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple . . . Scrapper
I’m so excited about what I’ve seen so far. I know one of Lisa’s philosophies with her new line is to keep scrapbooking accessible and do-able. These basics go right along with that. Can’t wait to see more – which happens this Thursday 07-30-15 when Lisa reveals her next sneak peek. {How come every single time I type that, I write “sneek peak”??? Whyyyyy???}
Now that you’ve seen a little taste – if you think you’re going to like what Lisa will offer with Anthology, I really encourage you to sign up NOW as my Preferred Customer. Peeps like me will be the only way you can purchase Anthology products, because Lisa has signed an exclusive deal with a huge company called Youngevity. And I’m a rep, yo’.
Wanna’ Know How? It’s Super Easy (Not to Mention FREE)
Being a Preferred Customer is free and you’ll get 30% off retail of everything you purchase. You just sign up here: https://erikafriday.youngevity.com/
In the upper right, click Join, then Customer, and fill in the blanks. Easy peasy!
Note: Under “User name and distributor website URL”, please choose a user name – keeping in mind that if you ever become a Distributor, it’ll be your URL. For example, mine is ErikaFriday and my site is https://erikafriday.youngevity.com. You can choose your full name, your business name, or anything else you like. If you stay a Preferred Customer forever, it functions as your user name.
Also, please ensure it says at the bottom of the form: “You are signing up under Erika Friday (101433514).” That way, you’re enrolled as a Preferred Customer under my account.
Here’s a video showing how to create a Preferred Customer account (just watch the first minute or so).
If you decide later to become a distributor ($25) or a CEO ($500, on sale through 7/31 for $400 – but you still get $500 to spend!) – then you already have this account set up and ready to upgrade. If you always stay a Preferred Customer, that’s awesome! You’ll log into your own site (the one you created above) and place your orders whenever you like.
Here’s a quick video showing how to place orders as a Preferred Customer. (It shows health products in the video but it’ll work exactly the same way for the “Anthology” scrapbooking products).

EARLY REVIEWS?
What are your thoughts on the sneak peeks of the Anthology line? Underwhelmed that they’re just basics? Scrappy happy to see things you know you’ll use? Wondering what could be coming next? Would love to hear what you think so far :)
See you Thursday, if not sooner (and this is where you say, “Not if I see you first!” bwahahahaha!).
As you know, I adore Layle Koncar and all her work for one of my fave brands, SIMPLE STORIES. So I follow her blog and saw THIS POST from her recently. Since April (2015), she’s been doing the “Listers Gotta’ List” challenge – which you can find out more about HERE.
Here’s a video Layle made of her Listers Gotta’ List album so far:
Okay, now you want to do this challenge, don’t you? Seeing her awesome little album sure made me want to jump in! I’ve been too busy with work and life to do much scrapping at home these days, but this seems like a do-able project. I know I can’t do a list per day like Layle does but even if I do 1 per week, I’d be getting something done, right? Maybe I can catch up on weekends.
“Listers Gotta’ List” Challenge
The challenge is totally FREE – although the organizer The Reset Girl does have kits for sale if you like right HERE :) Super cute.
So I just went and downloaded all the challenge files that have been posted so far, April through July 2015. Here’s what the first sheet looks like, to give you an idea:
I love the font she uses for the list titles. You can either print her titles out on stickers or re-write or re-format/print them yourself. The sky’s the limit, really. There are some lists I won’t do (Favorite Non-Planner Instagrammers, for instance) so I’m thinking about – for continuity sake – just using her master list each month, picking out the ones I want make lists of, and handwriting them myself.
Now for the format . . . hmmmm. What should I do?
Travel Planner?
I like the little travel planners that both The Reset Girl and Layle used. They’re slim, affordable, have a non-intimidating space to fill up, etc.
Project Life Style?
I’m also thinking about doing this using Project Life supplies. Lawdy knows, I have enough cards to use, LOL! . . . and page protectors . . . and albums, both 12×12 and 6×8. That would make it easy to include photos in with my lists. Oooh! Or maybe even use one of these Project Life slim mini albums. Say what? The Cherry album is only $4.43 on Amazon right now!
Simple Stories Sn@p Album?
Mainly ‘cuz I have this gorgeous “I Am” line to use and this project seems perfect! A little birdie told me that Simple Stories has a new line coming out in the fall that matches “I Am” very nicely. So I can keep going with the look even when I go through my “I Am” supplies.
Decisions, Decisions!
Well, I’ll be thinking about how to approach this but I don’t want to think too long or I won’t start. Which approach would you choose?
Have you done a listing challenge before? I’ve seen others and they seem like so much fun. I’ve attempted them way in the past and never stuck with them, unfortunately. Maybe all the support for this one will keep me going. Are you going to try this one? If you do, let me know!
Wow, I can’t believe my scrappy eyes! Today only, Scrapbook Steals has WMRK Leather 12×12 albums for only $12.99 each!! They’re regularly $29.99.
These are the 4 colors they have – Turquoise Blue, Black, Cherry Red, and Brown.
Here’s a close look at the red.
I have a story about red WRMK albums actually :) I bought a “red” WRMK album in person once way back and was using it for my Disney pages. When that was full, I wanted another and couldn’t find red in any local stores so I purchased one online. However, I failed to notice they had more than 1 shade of red. So what showed up in the mail was a bright cherry red, not the muted dark red I was looking for. Oh well, there’s a happy ending . . . I loved the bright red color so much, I kept it. Now I use dark red albums for one of my kids’ school albums and the cherry red for Disney pages.
Moral of the story: Make sure you’re ordering the right version of the color you want. They also have more than 1 version of brown.
I’m a WRMK album junkie and have … erm … SEVERAL? Okay, that’s a big fat lie. I just did an inventory to see if I needed to order any of these colors and I have . . . coughcoughover30coughcough WRMK albums. I’m sorry. I know that’s excessive. Well, for most scrappers it might be but I do pretty much exclusively pocket pages these days and they gotta’ be housed somewhere, people! Plus I’m using pocket pages to “store” ALL my photos in divided page protectors so we can enjoy them before I have time to scrap them all – which ain’t gonna’ happen until I retire years down the road. When there are sales, I stock up. I don’t think I’ve ever paid the full price for a WRMK album. {Gah, Erika, defensive much??}
I love using WRMK albums because . . .
– they are very good quality from cover to spine label to D-rings
– they come with page protectors
– they come in so many colors and I use different colors for different themes (black for weddings, turquoise for Project Life/year in review, kiwi green for family albums, etc.)
– all my albums look so pretty lined up on my shelf and that makes me happy {eat your heart out, Stacy Julian!}
Anyhow, ScrapbookSteals tends to sell out quickly and, especially with this great of a price, I’m shocked that as of 1pm PST today they still have all 4 colors in stock. But if you want any of these albums, I wouldn’t wait any longer.
Do you use WRMK albums & are you planning to take advantage of this amazing deal?
I have something special of my own to announce on (Inter)National Scrapbook Day – Saturday, May 2, 2015 – so please stay tuned for that! I hope you’re gonna’ love it ❤️
{There will be chances to win prizes . . . is that enough to make you come back? Hee heeee}
Here’s a list of things going on around the interwebs this week and especially Saturday 05-02-15 in honor of I-NSD 2015:
BeckyHiggins.com
I’m on Becky’s email list and in her email of 04-27-15, she linked to a Youtube video where she tells of all the fun stuff going on at her site on Saturday 5/2. When I tried to share the video here on my blog, I got this message: “This video is unlisted. Be considerate and think twice before sharing.” So apparently I’m not supposed to share the video. Sorry, I’m not a rule breaker. Well, except for on my Junior Prom night but that’s another story*. Heh. Soooo – if you’re on Becky’s mailing list, get the linkee there, Google it up, or perhaps she’s putting it out on Facebook, etc. She did say that THE VIDEO is the ONLY place they’re posting online about WHAT EXACTLY will be happening Saturday. Take my word for it – you want to be there :)
*Oops! Mom? Are you out there? . . . . (crickets) . . . Phew! She doesn’t read my blog normally but I just had to make sure.

There you go! Did you find anything fun or interesting? Hope so! I may add to this list if I hear of other fun stuff before the weekend is over; I’ll put new items at the top – just keep stoppin’ by if you like :)
Hey, am I missing anything?
I’ll be hanging around here on Scrapbook Obsession all weekend so if you want to chat, I’m around :)
Tell me about all the other amazing deals and fun stuff you’ve seen going on for International Scrapbooking Day . . . purdy please?
What are your plans for this, our finest of holiday weekends?
Yes, I’m the annoying shopper taking photos every time I’m in Michaels and I see something new ;) Problem is, I haven’t come home and shared these pics with you in a while – so here’s some catch-up.
I give you … “New” items I’ve seen at Michaels in March and April 2015:
Heidi Swapp and Recollections embellishments
A little more variety in our Project Life section
A bright and colorful new 12×12 paper pad by DCWV called “Chick Chat”
A bunch of blackboard stuff from Recollections
New 6×6 paper pads by My Minds Eye. These are always on endcaps in my store so you may have to look around to find them.
A cute little plastic shoebox with an “it’s raining” theme – and on clearance! This is the type of box I use for my Project Life card storage.
Kinda’ like the coughcoughBORINGcoughcough new crafts section at Target, Mike’s has some DIY stuff, basics in lots of colors
Cheapie bins of super cute enamel dots . . .
label stickers . . .
twine balls (heh) . . .
and mini doilies
New tags and things by Craft Smith – made of burlap, cork, metal, canvas, and denim
Project-Lifey card and embellishment kits. In my store, these are in the back by framing and there are matching 8.5 x 11 photo albums below them.
Super cute new MAMBI paper pad
WITH HEARTS!! <3
Love this pretty new K&Company postbound album – great colors and design
Some Spring-y new mini paper pads and die cut packs by Recollections
Tabbed index cards by Recollections, great for organizing photos or Project Life cards
Hey, I think someone asked me a long time ago where I got the scrapbook page display thingee in my office. I forgot to answer but when I saw these at Michaels, I remembered that I forgot. So sorry, whoever that was! Yep, I got it at Michaels and they still have ’em.
Over in the home deco section, there was also some cute new stuff –
So that’s what’s what at Michaels these days.
Further down in the same mall, there’s a Bev Mo (do you have these where you live? I call them “college students’ heaven” stores). I’m driving along and got a little bit twitterpated – CRAFT EVENT! – before I realized, “Duh. It’s Bev Mo. Must mean craft beer.” Bummer, dude. Really harshed my mellow.
So I went in, got some Grey Goose, and it was all good.
One of my favorite sources of online learning – CREATIVE LIVE – has scrapbooking-related classes from their Craft & Maker series on sale RIGHT HERE to celebrate National Craft Month.
Up to 40% off from March 16 – 22, 2015!
Several of them are digital scrapbooking-related which isn’t my groove but maybe it’s yours, or you want to learn more about it. I will say that one of the digi instructors, Traci Reed, is a great teacher. I’ve taken classes from her during TRUE SCRAP events, like her class for TRUE SCRAP: POCKET PAGES
If you’re more of a traditional (aka paper) scrapbooker like me, you might want to check out these sale classes:
Becky Higgins – Scrapbooking with Project Life
Lain Ehmann – Scrapbook Your Story
Nicole Samuels – Scrapbooking Your Baby’s First Year
Megan Hoeppner – From App to Archive: Social Media Scrapbooking
I’ve taken all of these online classes when they were in free preview mode and LOVED each one! Creative Live does a high-class job and the instructors are at the top of their game, sharing loads of information, giving real life examples from themselves and live audience members, and the classes are nice and long – totally worth the cost, especially with the discount pricing right now.
I think my favorite of the 4 classes above was Becky’s. Yes, I’m biased right now toward Project Life style/pocket page scrapbooking but that wasn’t it; it was how open Becky was about her history in the scrapbooking industry, the behind-the-scenes stories about the business end of PL, how lines are created, how she uses PL in her real life, and how emotional and honest she got – even to the point of tears at times. I can’t say I learned a TON of new things about Project Life but I learned more about Becky and scrapbooking in general that made me love both of them even more (is that frickin’ possible??!?! LOL).
Because these classes are nice and long, any of them would be great to be like your Scrapbooking TV, playing during your scrap sessions :) They don’t run sales that often so I’m happy to see this. Hope you find something you like!
PS: While you’re at CREATIVE LIVE, check out THIS cool blog post about 5 inspiring scrapbookers and enter THIS contest on Instagram for the chance at an amazing prize!
This is a VERY new release and it’s already being sold for 20% off – woot!
You can find it at SCRAPBOOK STEALS.COM. It looks like they have all if not the majority of the new line and it’s all 20% off retail. There are 12×12 paper kits, card sets, enamel dots, photo overlays, etc.
I love deals like this because the discount basically covers the shipping (or even more). So cost-wise it’s almost like shopping at a local scrapbook store – which I don’t have access to anymore, boo hoo.
*Image via the Simple Stories blog
If you remember, Simple Stories “Life Documented” is the line that got delayed for so long because of a union dispute at the LA docks. I feel so badly for Simple Stories because the focus of this line is the new year and I’m sure they lost a lot of sales because it wasn’t available at the end of 2014 as intended.
Instead, they couldn’t provide it to vendors until 2015 had already begun and I’m sure lots of scrappers and planner junkies who PLANNED (see what I did there? eh? eh?) to use this line for their 2015 scrapping and planning had to buy another line so they could get started.
Here’s a cool video by Simple Stories showing the planner in action and a quick glimpse at the end of using it for pocket page scrapping.
I wish Simple Stories well and hope they’re able to sell a buncha’ Life Documented via SCRAPBOOK STEALS.COM and other vendors!
PS: Remember that SS just released an e-book for inspiration in using this fun line!
I know it’s Super Bowl Sunday* but what I’ve got for you is scrapbooking-related, LOL. Speaking of which, I hope all you football wives and moms are taking lots of pics and making some rad scrapbooks after this! Super Bowl times make for some great memories.
Here are some fun finds and bits of news from around the scrappy interwebs this week . . .
– I know a lot of overseas folks will be so happy to hear that BeckyHiggins.com NOW SHIPS INTERNATIONALLY!! Although in reading the comments on the blog post, it seems that many aren’t happy with the cost. I personally agree with the comments that point out Becky doesn’t set the shipping costs. She was asked to make international shipping available and she did. She doesn’t control the price and can’t take a loss on each order by lowering that. What do you think?
– One of these is gone but there are still three left . . .
– Simple Stories has another Simple Inspiration ebook out, this one for their new “Life Documented” line. It’s free and you can see it HERE.
– I absolutely love this page, both the idea and the execution!
– I’ll close with a little blog milestone: This weekend, I reached 700 subscribers to my blog posts! I’m so excited and grateful! I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to read and to support my blog. It truly means the world to me :) If you would like to subscribe, just enter your email address in the box at the top right of this site. You will ONLY receive an email when a new post is published. Promise. I do plan to start another mailing list but it will be separate from this one which is basically an RSS feed.
* Whoops! I had a busy weekend and thought I’d scheduled this post to go up late Sunday night but apparently not, LOL. Sorry ’bout that. To further apologize, I’ll add 2 more tidbits you might like:
Crafty Steals has a bundle today of October Afternoon Mini Market alpha stickers – only $12.99 for 18 packs! If you’ve never used these alphas, I highly recommend them. The rectangle ones especially are the perfect size for so many projects.
And Simple Stories released some free printables to go with their new “Life Documented” line!
They are made to be used with their planner line specifically but you can use them in your own planner, pocket page scrapping, or regular scrapbooking. Enjoy!
Here’s a round-up of some cool scrappy things I saw this week and want to share with you!
– If you’re thinking about downsizing your scrapbooking in 2015 – like, literally, to 6×8 or 8×8 – check out Blackbird Darlin’s POST. She does a great job of explaining how she’ll be doing it this year and what she learned from last year.
– I got to meet Nancy Nalley last year at CHA. She’s super nice and wicked smart, just like you’d expect. Anyhow, she goes to every CHA then writes great recaps. You can check them out on SCRAPBOOK UPDATE, including her Top 10 Picks from CHA.
– If you’ve been one of the many waiting for the Simple Stories “Life Documented” line to finally clear customs, you’re in luck!
From Simple Stories:
After 7 weeks sitting on the dock in Southern California due to union/labor issues, we are SO EXCITED to announce that the container carrying our Life Documented Planner & Scrapbook collections has arrived in our warehouse! We are working as quickly as possible to ship product to our distributors and retailers. Watch for the Life Documented Planner & Scrapbook collections to hit your favorite retailer soon!
Phew!
– Remember when I talked about Create and Craft USA? I was watching Bravo this weekend and on comes a Create and Craft commercial! It was so cool. It was a cute, crafty bit and at the end it advertised how they’re live online 24/7 and on DISH Channel 221 11-5 ET. (We have DISH so that’s what it mentioned, but they’re also on DirecTV at the same time, Channel 85/222). I think I have yet to catch any presentations that are specifically scrapbooking but I keep holding out hope :)
I think C and C were very smart to advertise on Bravo network, don’t you? There’s a lot of overlap between “Scrapbookers” and “Real Housewives Fans”, LOL. Count me in! Every city, every season . . .
– Yeah, I’m mostly into pocket page scrapbooking these days but when time allows, I still bust out some 2-pagers. I’m always on the hunt for inspiration, especially layouts that use a lot of photos. Check out this BEAUTIFUL layout from the EVALICIOUS BLOG:
Isn’t it lovely? I’m on a scrapbooking forum with the lovely Rona who created this layout. She recently became the Design Team Coordinator for Evalicious and just prior to that, she’d organized an Evalicous puffy sticker group buy for us. Which reminds me . . . I still need to post my pics from that. You can see lots more pics and some close-ups of Rona’s layout at the link above.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I adore Amazon. I’ve been a Prime member for a few years now and absolutely love it. I do a lot of my regular shopping there and for scrapbook/Project Life scrapping, it’s awesome! They run deals all the time on things like page protectors, albums, Project Life sets, and scrapbook kits.
And y’know when you’re online scrapbook shopping and you find something you really want but the shipping (especially on bulky items like albums, protectors, and 12×12 paper) puts you off the purchase? With Amazon, I never worry about that. Not only will the shipping be free but it’ll arrive within a few days. That’s saved me a few times when I needed something before a crop or for a specific project I was gung-ho to finish.
When I first joined, Amazon Prime cost $75/year but it now costs $99/year. Well, for TODAY ONLY, new members can sign up for AMAZON PRIME for only $72!!
Here are the benefits:
FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items
Unlimited, ad-free access to over a million songs
Instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video
Free unlimited photo storage in Amazon Cloud Drive
Read free books each month through Kindle First and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library
I haven’t tried out the free photo storage yet but it seems like another great selling point for scrapbookers. The more places you can have your photos backed up, the better, right?
What I’ve found is that – with the money I save on shipping and Kindle books alone – the membership more than pays for itself (that’s how I justify my Costco Executive Membership, too).
This is a unique offer from Amazon, one that I’ve not see before, so I wanted to share in case you’ve been thinking about trying out Prime. Here’s a great incentive to try it.
Enjoy your Saturday :)
PS: If you’re an EXISTING Prime member like me, try contacting Amazon to ask if you can receive a renewal for $72. Word on the street is that they may tell you no but then credit your account for the $27 difference just for asking. Let me know how it goes!
So I was on Amazon yesterday looking at one of THESE . . . hmmm, why would I need one? Something SBO Membership-related, perhaps? ;) Anyhow, while I was there, I looked around at scrapbook supplies and here are some fun things I found:
Wowza! What a pretty line! I hadn’t seen this before so I’m glad I browsed around a little bit. MME puts out so many lines, they can start to look same-same to me – but this one is unique and I love it!
There are other sets for the $2.20 price as well – if you ordered some other stuff, you could get all 4 sets for under $9 with free shipping:
I love the MAMBI cards for pocket page scrapping. They use such fun colors and fonts, all their stuff looks great together, and I can always find a saying that works with my photos.
If you don’t have this line yet, I recommend it. It has such a unique and pretty look to it, and it kinda’ forces you to do pages about YOU – something scrapbookers need to do more of :)
I have Raskog Envy. Yes, that’s the official diagnosis. I went to a doctor and everything ;) And made a Pinterest board.
Ever since they came out years ago, I’ve wanted a Raskog cart from Ikea to use in my scrapbook room. I think I could totally rock my Project Life organization in one of these babies!
Although it comes in a few colors . . .
. . . and many even spray paint it . . .
. . . I reallyreallyreally want that Robin’s Egg Blue one.
Sigh.
I don’t live near an Ikea and it hasn’t been in the budget yet to get it online. The cart is $50 and shipping to me is another $14.
Sigh.
Now, in what may be great news for you if you’re in the same boat: A Raskog cart knock-off has appeared at Sam’s Club!!! In a pretty light blue – check it out:
I have a sweet online scrappy friend (Hollah Ann!) who happens to have BOTH versions of this cute cart. She was kind enough to take photos of them next to each other so we can see how they compare.
From what I’m hearing, the Raskog trays are 3/4″ wider and 1/2″ deeper. And the Raskog is a little sturdier with heavier metal – especially the bottoms of the trays. That last photo really shows the color difference. At around $35, the Sam’s cart is about $15 less than the Raskog (around $50) – plus shipping if you don’t have an Ikea nearby. So this may be a good bet!
Scrappers are reporting finding the Raskog knock-off carts in various places in their Sam’s Club stores – including near the front by the patio furniture (sometimes still in box and not assembled/obvious) and even still on pallets above the breakfast food section. Here, let me make this easier for you: Item Number 930442. Just give that to a Sam’s employee and they can check the computer to find the location in the store, if they have any :)
Personally, I’m holding out for the Ikea Raskog version. The light blue of the Sam’s cart is pretty but the aqua of the Ikea cart is my favorite color. Plus, I’m willing to pay extra for bigger and stronger trays.
Happy Shopping and Storing!
PS: If you’d like a silver knock-off, more shelves, or are just dying to pay MORE than the Raskog, check out the Jayden Metal Shelf Units from Cost Plus World Market :)
Becky Higgins revealed on her blog today that she has a new kit coming out called “Southern Weddings”. It’s made in partnership with a company called – and I think it’s no coincidence! – Southern Weddings. The new line has an expected arrival of February 2015, just in time for wedding season.
From Becky’s blog entry:
Not only will there be a Core Kit, but we’ve also created an Album, 6×6 Paper Pad, Chipboard Stickers, Photo Overlays, Embossing Folders, 4×4 Cards, and 2 sets of Specialty Cards … one that is specific to Southern brides!
I wasn’t nor will I ever be (ha ha) a Southern Bride but it’s pretty cool that there’ll be a card set just for them.
There are photos on her blog but they weren’t big enough on my screen to get a very good look – and I have a huge iMac. So I enlarged the photos and posted them here, just in case anyone was having the same problem. Just an aside: That’s why I don’t prefer blogs that are set up like Becky’s with such a narrow body. I find that it’s often hard to see photos on her new set-up :( Scrapbookers are, by nature, VISUAL! LOL On the flip side, the photos here may load slowly for you so that’s the trade-off, I guess.
Okay, y’all, here ya’ go! {<- Did you catch the Southern reference, hardy har har}.
Wow, so dreamy and lovely! The soft colors are gorgeous and I love their choice of fonts, card topics, etc.
At the last wedding I went to, I took my usual photos {in between dancing and drinking shots; OOPS! Did I say that in my ‘out loud’ voice?}. That night, I printed them in our hotel room (yes, I got a ride home from a non-drinker, Nosy Nancy!), put them in a pre-assembled 8×8 scrapbook, and presented it to the bride and groom the following morning at brunch. They said it was one of their favorite gifts and loved having photos and a rememberance they could take on their honeymoon, as the professional photos wouldn’t arrive for some time. My point – and I do have one – is that THIS KIT would be SO SO SO perfect for projects like that, don’t you think? ‘Cuz I think. Surely I do.
Alas, my own wedding (over 20 years ago and yet to be scrapped – because I can’t find just the right line) had darker colors and no pastels so I’m thinking my photos won’t look good with this line. However, I’ll reserve judgment until I see it in person or see more of the cards online. If nothing else, I have at least one family member’s wedding to scrap and their colors were perfect for “Southern Weddings” by Project Life. {<- Didja' see how I just enabled myself to buy a kit I can't use for my own wedding?? Huh? Huh? Dang, I'm good!}
Okay, now I have some questions for you:
1. If you're married, how long ago was your wedding and have you scrapped the photos yet?
2. If you're not married, can you see yourself designing your future wedding around these colors just so you can use Project Life "Southern Weddings" to scrap it?
3. Are you willing to divorce your current spouse and find someone else to marry just so you can use this kit?
Just curious ;)
Have a great week!
PS: I had to laugh a bit at the message I got when I intially tried to comment on Becky's "Southern Weddings" blog post:
ERROR: Your comment appears to be spam. We don’t really appreciate spam here.
“Erika @ Scrapbook Obsession Blog” appears to be spam. Please enter a different value in the Name field.
Please go back and try to say something useful.
Granted, I did put an @ symbol in the “name” field so it must’ve set off their spam detectors – even though I’ve commented on her old blog and lots of other blogs as “Erika @ Scrabook Obsession Blog” with no problems ever. And I *have* several blogs so I can appreciate not wanting spam but 1. there are spam detector plug-ins that are amazing and what they don’t catch, you can moderate with little effort, and 2. I thought the wording was a little hurtful (sniff). In practice, I bet more “silly, oops, that was a mistake” scrappers like me see the message than spam bots (who, by the way, can’t read). Still love ya’, Becky! Like I said, it just made me chuckle.
Now, go on, leave already! Go plan a wedding or something.
I do mostly pocket-page scrapbooking these days a la PROJECT LIFE so I’d love to get both of these magazines. Wish I had $30 lying around, LOL. Remember the “old days” of scrapbooking magazines coming in the mail and curling up on the couch with a cup of coffee or tea, just immersing yourself in the ideas and pretty pictures? Ah, the good times . . .
Although not able to get these magazines myself, I can give a good review for Scrap & Paper Shop. About 6 months ago, I bought THIS older Lisa Bearnson book from them called “50 Moments.” They had the best price by far anywhere online, the shipping was very reasonable, and it arrived quickly.
I hope if you’re a pocket-page scrapper like me, or just curious about it, you’re able to check out these cool mags :)
I made sure to specify “core kit” in the title of this post because I didn’t want you to get the wrong kind of twitterpated!
Many scrappers, including myself, saw Becky’s blog post and thought, “Whoo hoo! There’s now a desktop edition of the the Project Life app!” Yeah, well, NO. It’s not a desktop edition of her popular app, it’s a new Project Life core kit called “Desktop Edition.”
I for one am always happy to see a new core kit so I’m not gonna’ complain too loudly but, sure, a “desktop edition” of the app would sure be handy, Miss Becky! In the meantime, I’ll console myself looking at your purdy new kit :)
You can get the kit from Becky’s online store HERE. It’s funny – to me, this image on her website doesn’t look much like the actual kit from the other photos:
Here’s the description from BH.com:
The office meets Project Life in the Desktop Edition! You’ll find classic colors, pencils, pens, and globes along with florals and graphic patterns to round out this collection designed by Tiffani Smith.
And from Becky’s blog:
. . . filled with fun graphics — pens, books, and other office supplies while being sprinkled with florals and bold graphics. The color palette is rich, warm, and sure to be a favorite. This new edition includes a Core Kit, Designer Album, 6×6 Paper Pad, Photo Overlays, Stickers, and Embossing Folders.
Yep, STICKERS! That’s new, right?
Love the hearts and paperclips <3
These are just a few of the kit images. There are more on Becky’s blog entry linked above. On the one hand, I really like this new Project Life Core Kit. It’s a fun theme, very versatile, would be fun to use in a scrapbook-y planner, and has some fresh images. On the other hand, I’m more a silver girl than gold (and kind of burnt out on all the gold in Scrapbook Land anyway). The gold overlays are a NO especially.
If the stickers are sold separately somewhere, I’ll probably buy those. And I’ll hope to find a partial kit to buy some of the cards – or buy the whole core kit myself and sell off 2/3 or 3/4 of the cards. Heads up: If you LOVE the gold cards, hit me up, LOL.
PS: If you haven’t seen this “I Am Project Life” video yet, check it out. I gotta’ admit, it made me a little bit weepy. Sniffle.

Lain has a a few exciting things on offer right now.
1. Her FREE December scrapinar happening 12-09-14 which you can sign up for right here. As with all of her free scrapinars, if you’re not available to watch it live, you get a free replay – but you MUST sign up ahead of time. Later, she sells these for cash-money so it really doesn’t make sense to NOT sign up. Know what I mean, Vern? And Layle Koncar from SIMPLE STORIES is always a hoot!
2. Every year, Lain has the “12 Deals of Christmas” which she posts/sends out once per day December 1-12 at noon EST. If you’re impatient like me, you can view the entire list HERE and maybe jot down on your calendar which deal(s) you’re doing to jump on. There are a limited number of each thing so you have to be quick or miss out. I like to support this event of Lain’s specifically because of this:
10 percent of your purchase price goes to the Aasha Foundation. The Aasha Foundation provides comprehensive social, recreational and educational enrichment support for 35 girls residing at a shelter home for girls in Mumbai, India.
For years, I’ve wanted to incorporate my faith more into my scrapbooking but have never followed through. I just feel like our faith, whatever form it takes, is SO important to who we are and what we should document about ourselves. I’m very excited about this and will definitely be signing up!
Gosh, where should I start? The only scrappy shopping I did for the “Black Friday weekend” was at Michaels and it was mostly for necessities like albums to hold pocket pages and storage items. Now it’s time to have some fun! Let me know how you make out and if you need someone to talk you down from a purchase . . . erm . . . don’t call me! Hee heeeeeeee!!!
As I posted about HERE, I ordered the Project Life “My Story” kit from HSN on their last scrapbooking day. It finally arrived last week!
Here’s the cover to the album . . . obvi! I really like the shades of green and the clean design. I think it will be timeless and not look dated when I’m old and gray :)
This is the front and back of the package insert so you can see a bit more of what the pages look like.
Here’s the opening page and you can see all the tab dividers along the right side.
This is a closer look at the tabs. Can you see how some of them are already crumpled? The cardstock that the pages and dividers are made from are the same weight (instead of the dividers being of a heavier weight) which is like a heavy cardstock but certainly not a chipboard, not even a thin one. You never know, heavier cardstock could’ve made the book so thick and heavy, it wasn’t useable so I’m fine with this. I’ll probably find a way to reinforce or replace the tab dividers. I do love all the topics it comes with and how the album flows so well.
These are samples of two of the page spreads.
And, finally, the closing page about your will and final wishes. In other words, “You can go to sleep. You are dead now, Scrappy.” You can also see the {10} divided page protectors that came with this album kit from HSN.
Overall, I’m very happy with the Project Life “My Story” kit. The price from HSN was cheaper than buying all the items separately so it was priced well. The colors and theme of the album are very clean, user friendly, and won’t distract from all the handwriting to be included. They are simple and should be fun to embellish a bit. I’m thinking “WASHI!” How about you?
The most impressive thing about this album is the huge array of topics covered and questions asked. When completed, it really will be your life story from start to finish. There may be pages here and there that don’t apply to everyone – for instance, I’m putting aside the page about ‘my grandchildren’ since I don’t have any yet – but for the most part, very useable and universal.
Becky Higgins does it again. I can’t wait to get started.
