Simple Stories: A New Line is Coming . . . “Daily Grind”

I just got a sneak peek of this new line {which I’m not allowed to share yet, or you KNOW I would!} and it’s uh-MAY-zing!

It’s another clean, colorful, daily-use line similar to their Sn@p! lines – as opposed to the usually more distressed Simple Stories looks. Just to give you a little hint ;)

Vendors are placing orders now and the full reveal is planned for next Monday, 10/28/13. Of course, I will carry it here through MEMORY WORKS and would love if you placed an order through me :)

EEEE!!! Can’t wait for “Daily Grind”!

Simple Stories: Are the Chipboard Sn@p! 6×8 Albums Being Discontinued?

I think many of us have been asking ourselves this question, given that these albums have been showing up on clearance at Michaels, in kits, etc. When a product is discounted, it makes you wonder (fear!) that it’s end-of-the-line time for that product.

When this question was recently posted at Two Peas, I decided to contact LAYLE KONCAR, the marketing director for Simple Stories, and get an answer directly from her. Here was her answer: “We’re not phasing them out.”

YAYYY!!!! I know a lot of scrappers will be happy to hear that. While the new ‘leather’ 6×8 Sn@p! albums are lusciously wonderful (!) . . . {EEEE! Can you say “December Daily”??}

. . . the older version is special. The chipboard covers and cloth spines can be altered and customized to your heart’s content. Besides, I just love kraft <3

Here is what Layle posted to the Two Peas thread:

Hello ladies!

I’m the Marketing Director for Simple Stories. I assure you, we are NOT phasing out our SN@P! Binders; they continue to be one of our best selling products. You will continue to see us release products that coordinate the SN@P! Binders as well as our faux leather 6×8 and 12×12 albums. We have some SUPER fun things coming out at CHA related to the SN@P! Binders – stay tuned

Not only is Simple Stories NOT phasing out the Sn@p! binders, they are ADDING things related to them. Couldn’t be better news than that!

I’m a Memory Works Consultant (owned by the same family who owns Simple Stories), and we have the Sn@p! binders in stock RIGHT HERE . . . in case you can’t find the color you need elsewhere :) Please e-mail me with your order: scrapbookobsession(at)gmail(dot)com. I’ll send you a Paypal invoice lickety split and once paid, your Sn@p! binders {and maybe some other lovely products we carry like the new Sn@p! sets??} will be shipped directly to you within 1-2 business days.

Simple Stories Sn@p! “Everyday” ~ my FAVE of the new Sn@p! sets

Happy Sn@ppin!!

Scrapbook Deals and Steals: Lots of Project Life on Sale Plus a Bag in Bag You Need!

Do you like my new category? I *love* me some scrapbook deals and steals, saving money, and sharing them with you. So now we’re official :)

You can find the Project Life deals on Amazon RIGHT HERE!!

Don’t know what’s going on, didn’t hear it announced anywhere, etc. But I was on Amazon last night to get THIS amazing bag that you’ll *need* as well after you watch this:

. . . when I noticed that the Project Life Childhood Mini Kit – Bridgeport Edition that I had in my cart for months . . . was HALF PRICE with free shipping!

So I snatched that baby up, sista’! You can’t beat that with a stick. Here’s just a few examples of other great deals:

Photo Pocket Pages – Big Variety Pack 1 (60 Pages). Wowsers! Regularly $29.99, on sale for only $17.33 with free shipping.

Project Life Core Kit – Seafoam Edition. Regular price $29.99, on sale for $16.48 with free shipping.

Project Life Grid Cards 4 x 6 – Box of 100 Regular price $7.99, now only $3.92 with free shipping.

Many scrappers are lucky to have Project Life in local big box stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Archivers, etc. where you can use a 40% off coupon to take a bit of sting out of the prices. But I only have a Mike’s – with a small PL selection at that – and other than refill pages, I’ve already used coupons to get the few sets I like that they carry.

Now you understand my HAPPY-NESS at finding Project Life on such a great sale at Amazon, yeah!?!?!

I also got this pretty blue BAG IN BAG like the one shown in the video above!!

It comes in other colors, including these:

OMG! My mind is going crazy with uses for these amazing little bags. First, so many ideas involving scrapbooking:

Portable Tool Kit: Scissors, journaling pens, adhesive/refill, eraser, Cats Eye inks, etc. On your desk and easy to take to crops

Stamping Kit: Most used stamps and inks, again portable for crops or even just to sit in front of the TV while you stamp card sentiments or page titles

Project Life Kit: Journaling cards, washi tape, wood veneers in those outside mesh pockets, corner rounder, date stamps, etc. I currently have all this stuff in a tray on my desk. How cool to be portable instead :)

Crop Misc. Kit: Finally! One place to put your charger cables, iPhone, Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers (oh, wait – that’s probably just me), hand lotion, photo paper, sticky note pads, and all the random things you want handy on the crop table but don’t fit in another category.

Then there are all the other things you could use it for: make-up, office or bill supplies, purse contents (to make purse-switching easy or just to organize all that stuff), travel toiletries, on and on . . .

I got to thinking what great Christmas gifts they would make for all the chickies in my life. Who couldn’t find a use for a bag like this? I had to restrain myself to only one for now but I’m definitely going back for more when the budget allows.

Speaking of money, there are other vendors selling the Bag in Bag like THIS ONE. They are much cheaper – in some cases costing just a couple dollars – but make sure you check where they’re shipping from in case it’s Asia. That will take a lot longer to get here. Just a tip :) But if you’re in no hurry, it’s all good. I mistakenly ordered earbuds from Hong Kong once and it was TORTURE waiting for them to get here. After 4 weeks, I tried to cancel the order and of course couldn’t because they were already in customs or some such. Anyway, that’s why I won’t order things anymore that ship from outside the U.S. Oh, and they wouldn’t provide tracking information either. And they were (supposed to be) part of a birthday gift :(

With my Amazon Prime, I got the Bridgeport PL kit and the cute blue bag for about $20 bucks out the door. Not bad. Made my ever-lovin’, bargain-huntin’ heart so happy!

How about you? You gonna’ take advantage of the great Project Life sale or snag a Bag in Bag? Or five . . . :)

Scrapbook Products: Mid-Release “Fresh Cut” by Basic Grey

You can see the entire line HERE on their blog. So please go take a peek-y and come back so we can discuss :)

.
.
.

Okay, so here are my thoughts:

– This is not your usual Basic Grey line of late . . . and I LIKE it!

– I love watercolor and ombre’ anything so I’m IN, Baby! {HERE is my “Ombre & Watercolor” Pinterest board}

– I like at least 1 side of each of the papers; the embellishments not as much.

– I’m not a flowery foo-foo girl so it’s a bit of flower overkill for me personally. BUT I like the rain, sun, big dots, kites, birds, bicycles, etc.

– The blackboard embellishments seem REALLY out of place with this light, bright line. Maybe when I see them used on layouts they’ll grow on me.

I had to copy the papers here so I could ask – is it just me or do the colors below look totally different than the ones at the top of this entry?

Two favorites are the wood veneers and the navy watercolor paper:

So overall not a huge hit for me but a pretty line nonetheless with some elements that I really like.

***Ships in December 2013***

What are your thoughts on the Basic Grey “Fresh Cut” line?

Project Life: Another Find on HSN.com!

After the huge (and early!) hit that was HSN Project Life Photo Overlays, I thought you’d want early info on another Project Life item at HSN.com. Well, you know me! I’m here to enable . . . erm, INFORM . . . my readers. So here ya’ go . . .

Project Life Assorted Themed Journaling Cards from HSN.com

You can find them on HSN.com right HERE.

From what I can see, these are just 5 of the new Project Life Themed Cards sets sold as a package at HSN. You get:

40-pack themed cards – Love
– (4) 4″ x 6″ title cards
– (4) 4″ x 6″ journaling cards
– (32) 3″ x 4″ journaling cards
60-pack themed cards – Road Trip
– (6) 4″ x 6″ title cards
– (6) 4″ x 6″ journaling cards
– (48) 3″ x 4″ journaling cards
60-pack themed cards – Floral
– (6) 4″ x 6″ title cards
– (6) 4″ x 6″ journaling cards
– (48) 3″ x 4″ journaling cards
60-pack themed cards – Tropical
– (6) 4″ x 6″ title cards
– (6) 4″ x 6″ journaling cards
– (48) 3″ x 4″ journaling cards
60-pack themed cards – Celebrate
– (6) 4″ x 6″ title cards
– (6) 4″ x 6″ journaling cards
– (48) 3″ x 4″ journaling cards

You can get somewhat of a look at each of the above Themed Cards on BeckyHiggins.com right HERE. There are 36 total Themed Cards sets so you’ll have to put those eagle eyes and that scroll finger of yours to work.

The 40-pack Themed sets retail for $4.99 and the 60-packs for $6.99.

I’m as good at math as I am at resisting French fries (i.e. NOT very good) but I believe that adds up to about $33 retail. Seems to me that at $20 and fairly low shipping ($5.20), this is a steal of a deal!

A steal that I’d be taking advantage of except that I LITRALLY just got the Celebrate cards yesterday. Which are very cute, btw … kind of a modern vintage take on celebrations like birthdays and Christmas. I also might’ve purchased 4 other Themed sets as well. Just, ya know, in theory . . .

{Btw, I know that it’s not spelled LITRALLY. That was a joke. All you spelling and grammar babes can just take a chill pill}.

So what do you think of this HSN deal on Project Life Themed cards? Any interest?

Scrapbook Products: Enamel Dots

One of the hot new items in the scrapbooking world is enamel dots. I love them because they add a little pop of color wherever you need it. They’re less work than a brad – you don’t even have to punch a hole. Just stick ’em down and be on your way :)

They aren’t overly expensive (about $2-5 per pack), come in a huge variety of colors, and usually in 3 sizes per pack.

Here’s my current collection:

Enamel dots by Recollections, My Minds Eye, and Freckled Fawn
Enamel dots by Recollections, My Minds Eye, and Freckled Fawn

The only pack I paid full price for was the awesome teal one from Freckled Fawn. I just had to have those because those shades of teal blue are among my favorite colors.

The Recollections packs and the Halloween/MME I got from Michaels, using a coupon on each pack. ‘Cuz you know that’s how I roll. The rest of the MME ones are from a daily deal site. I think it was around $2/pack that way.

As I bought them, they were kind of getting tucked away all over my scrap room and not being used. So now I’ve gathered them all, put them with my Project Life stuff, and will start gettin’ bizzy with some dots.

I did try to use some of the gray ones on a layout I did this past weekend but they were the wrong shade. So that means I need to buy more, right?

If you need to be enabled, here are some enamel dots on Amazon.

Look how pretty these are!

The Sweetest Thing Lavender Enamel Dots-Reasons Why

Confession time: How many packs of enamel dots do you own? Do you use them a lot or still in the hoarding stage like I am? LOL Would love to hear from you! Just leave a Comment below.

Last Minute Offer! I Mean, Like, Tonight. Yeah, Really.

I just had one of the best times of 2013 – attending True Scrap 5, a 2-day online scrapbook event with over 300 scrapbookers from around the world! More on that later . . .

But after all those hours on the computer, I stepped away to (gasp) scrapbook, and I didn’t notice this offer until now . . . about 3 hours before the offer expires. So if you happen to be around this fine Saturday night, here ya’ go!

If you sign up by midnight tonight (10-12-13) and I think it’s EST, you can get ALL the classes from True Scrap 2 for only $44!! OMG, that is a sooper dooper deal!

Here are the details from Lain herself (who might have a teeny weeny crush on Mr. Hugh Jackman}:

Hugh’s 44th birthday celebration (and True Scrap 5) are almost over!

So in honor of True Scrap 5, in honor of breaking our True Scrap attendance record, and in honor of Mr. Jackman, here’s a birthday treat for you:

Save $83 (yes, that’s over 65%) on the COMPLETE recordings from True Scrap II today ONLY with code HUNK.

You’ll get 17 instructor videos like Nic Howard’s “Ready, Set, Distress,” Shimelle Laine’s “Creating Album Flow,” Kristina Werner’s “From Pages to Cards,” and over a dozen more! Over 20 hours of video content, yours at the very special price of $44, today ONLY.

All you have to do is click here to view more details.

Well, she had ME at Shimelle. When you click on that link above, you’ll see some other favorite scrappers and topics like: scrapbook organization, making money scrapbooking, digital scrapping, Noell Hymen from Paperclipping Roundtable, Nichol Magouirk, spray inks, making templates to print your photos, etc. I truly can’t believe the value. That’s like $2 a class and you’re not going to find this quality of instruction online ANYWHERE for two bucks a class.

I’m off to purchase now! I mean $44? That’s like going to the movies once. Or having 8 Starbucks latte’s . . . which I’m still going to have, but hey. Just trying to give you some comparisons, LOL.

Christmas is coming up . . . just tell hubby this is one of your gifts and he doesn’t even have to shop for it :)

Nite!

Scrapbook Warehouse Sale: Echo Park 2013

ECHO PARK is having a warehouse sale!

Sheesh, Echo Park doesn’t make it easy for bloggers to share their news. Can you even see the pieced together ad above? I had to copy it over piece by piece from an e-mail they sent out.

I would send you to their blog but as of this posting, the warehouse sale is not listed on Echo Park’s blog.

Regardless . . . or is it irregardless? . . . I would be goin’ to that frickin’ sale if I lived in Utah!! Can you imagine all that Echo Park goodness in one place??

PS: After I wrote my rant, I found this on Carta Bella’s blog. It appears to be in one piece ;)

Wait, what??? CARTA BELLA too??? You people are killin’ me!

Fricka frackin’ . . . grumble, grumble . . . Utah . . . {kicks dirt} . . . didn’t want any flippin’ Echo Parky schmarky, Carta Bella smella’ anyways . . . SO THERE!

I
do
not
feel
any
better.

The
end.

Scrapbook Funny: A Field Guide to Scrapbookers

Thank you so much to LISA MOOREFIELD for this super cute and relatable comic!

I am, in this order:

Hoarder ~ Not only do I buy tons of scrapbooking products, but I tend to hoard my favorites – like I’m afraid I’ll run out or something (eye roll).

Cheerleader ~ As evidenced by almost 7 years of blogging about scrapbooking . . .

Dreamer ~ I have WAAAYYY more ideas and dreams of projects than I have time to execute them. But I guess that’s part of the fun of this hobby :)

Nerd ~ Organization Freak, that’s me.

How about you? What categories do you put yourself in? Please leave a comment below!

Monday Funny: What Does the Fox Say?

Have you see this hot new song and video? My kids showed it to me a couple weeks ago and we’ve not been able to stop singing it – and laughing – ever since.

It was posted 09/03/13 and already has 94 million hits! Apparently, “Ylvis” are 2 brothers and comedians from Norway and they made the video to publicize their TV show. Wow, you never know what’s going to take off, do you? I even heard the song on the radio today and it gave me a big smile as I drove along. Although I kinda’ felt sorry for anyone who hadn’t seen the video – they must’ve been screaming “WTH???” at the radio, LOL.

Tchoff-choff-tchoff-choff-cha-choff-choff!

To make this scrapbook-related, have you noticed a fox trend in papercrafting? Here are just a few things I’ve seen lately:

Enjoy your week, you Foxy thang!

Project Life: 4×6 Photo Overlays Are Here!

As I mentioned HERE, I was very excited to order these new photo overlays made by Becky Higgins for PROJECT LIFE from HSN.com.

Well, apparently I was not alone. They were an HSN exclusive item, posted to their site on Wednesday, I bought them immediately when I saw them that day, and they were sold out by Friday before the HSN Scrapbooking shows even aired on Monday night/Tuesday morning (depending on your time zone).

Mine arrived on Tuesday – fast shipping! You go, HSN. Word to ya’ mutha’.

According to Becky herself on Facebook:

For those of you who were lucky enough to score the Project Life Overlays from HSN, here’s a TIP that you’ll want to know: Be sure to peel off the protective film before using the overlays! Once you do, the clarity will blow your mind. I know a lot of you are bummed they sold out so fast (I agree that more should have been ordered). I will be able to give you an update soon about our plans to hopefully bring these back!

From the image on HSN.com, it was hard to tell exactly what you get with this kit . . .

. . . so I wanted to post some quick photos of all 60 overlays. Sorry, not the best quality pics with my iPhone first thing in the morning but here ya’ go. You can at least get an idea what the sayings are and such.

Well first, here’s the packaging. I took this in the car right when I picked them up from the post office, hee hee. The Scrapbook Obsessed will understand that I couldn’t even wait until I got home to open them up, right?

IMG_2634

Here are the first 2 sets on some kraft cardstock:

IMG_2641

IMG_2643

Here are the next 2 sets on a blue/green color. I wanted to show them on different colors/shades so you can see how they look:

IMG_2644

IMG_2645

Here’s the last set on charcoal grey Bazzill bling. Ooooh, my arms look so skinny! These overlays are good for my self-esteem.

IMG_2646

Here are 2 overlays on photos.

IMG_2647

{We got to see a Dodgers/Red Sox game a few weeks ago. DODGERS: They clinch the NL West title WHEN they beat Arizona tonight, hee-yah! Oh wait, this is a scrapbooking blog . . . erm . . . so I’m pocket page scrapping the game using my Project Life “Honey” kit – 22 pages, LOL. Might be a wee bit baseball obsessed, too}.

These photos are true 4×6, printed on my Epson Picturemate. As you can see, the overlays cover to all the edges. Look at the top right corner of the top photo. They do have rounded corners – not sure how I’m going to handle that.

Here’s the whole healthy stack – 60 is a lot! But there are only a few duplicates that I noticed, of plain frames.

IMG_2648

I figure if I used approximately 1 per week in my Project Life, I’ll go through them nicely and won’t get tired of seeing them either :)

I hope Becky is able to restock these awesome overlays and that you’re able to get a hold of them!

Project Life: “Flea Market” by Maggie Holmes PL Mini Kit Now Available

Are you tired yet of hearing me yap about MAGGIE HOLMES line for Crate Paper called “Flea Market”? ‘Cuz if you are sista’, just keep on truckin’. I talked about it already HERE, HERE, and HERE and now I’m going to talk about it again. {Jeez, obsess on things much? Nahhh…}

As you know, I was excited so see this line was being made into a PROJECT LIFE kit . . . and now it’s here!!

And you can get it here: Project Life Mini Kit: Maggie Holmes – Flea Market

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of that pink and green flowery pattern. Not a fan of flowery in general so no offense to Maggie or anything, LOL. And I usually prefer white backgrounds for my Project Life pages for some unknown reason. But I’m going to get this kit anyway. Maybe the flowery cards will have something I like better on the other side. Or maybe I can use them on Mother’s Day cards. Yes! Brilliant idea, if I do say so myself.

And the rest of it, I adore! Banners, chevrons, the gorgeous sea blue/green color, navy and yellow polka dots – those are all right up my alley. And those bokeh hearts kill me every time. I hear there are only two 3×4 and one 4×6 of the heart bokeh cards but that’s okay.

Thanks to my friend Renee sharing some photos of this kit that she bought, I also see there is some wood, ombre, and little hearts, too!

This is only about half of the cards but it’s enough for a great visual of this kit. Thanks so much, Renee! You rawk, ma sista’.

ETA: But wait! Even more pictures from Renee! She pointed out those BLUE bokeh hearts. Oh, be still!

I truly was going to try resisting this kit because of, well, THIS. {The first step to overcoming addiction is to admit you have a problem}. But after seeing Renee’s photos, I was done. D-U-N, dun!

If you still haven’t made up your mind, let me share a recent blog entry by Maggie Holmes herself HERE where she did some Project Life pages using her PL Mini Kit and items from the Flea Market scrapbooking line. Here is just one of her layouts:

Love this! She shows that it’s not only a “girly” kit but can clearly be used on more masculine pages, too. Go to Maggie’s blog to see more awesome ways to use this kit and her entire “Flea Market” line.

So if I’ve enabled you {wink} and you’d like to purchase this kit, it’s RIGHT HERE for the taking.

And if you get a kit and want more of those flower cards, I’ll swap ’em with ya’ – ha!

Simple Stories: Lookie, Lookie!

The wonderful and generous LAYLE KONCAR, marketing director for Simple Stories, was kind enough to send me some new goodies to try out.

IMG_2604

Yep, it’s the new SIMPLE STORIES 6×8 and 12×12 Sn@p Albums, along with the new 12×12 Sn@p Pocket Pages Variety Pack!!

I’ll be posting photos and a review soon so stay tuned …

PS: I’m going to compare these albums to the ‘old’ 6×8 Sn@p binders and to the 12×12 leather albums by WRMK. If you have any other questions you’d like answered about them, please post in Comments below. Thanks!

I’m Alive, October Afternoon, and Check This Out If You Want to Smile :)

Sorry no bloggee for me lately. No, I didn’t get trampled by scrappers running to buy all the new Project Life THEMED KITS coming out this month. Nor was I run over by the October Afternoon WAREHOUSE SALE truck.

Nope, just the same old reason … super busy with work and family stuff. And a ran an online crop last weekend at my favorite message board – including Scrapbook Bingo! We had a blast and hope to do it again soon.

Speaking of October Afternoon, how did I miss THIS?!?!? It’s called “Milk Money”, a super cute school line. The papers and stickers are so cute, and these are a MUST-HAVE!

OA “Milk Money” Pillow Puffs

OA “Milk Money” Pop Drops

In fact, there is much of the DAILY FLASH line that I need to start saving for now. What do you think of OA’s new stuff? Maybe now that they’ve PARTNERED WITH Webster’s Pages, delivery to their frothing and drooling public (aka ME) will arrive sooner than later for once. Here’s hoping!

Lot’s of buy-outs and join-ups in the scrapbooking world these days. I just heard that WRMK BOUGHT A COMPANY, too. Hey, whatever keeps them viable and making scrappy products for us to enjoy, I say!

And I’ll close with a lovely video that made me smile . . . hope it does the same for you: IRISH CUPS.

Online Scrapbook Class: The MEGA Kind! TRUE SCRAP 5

I’ve never been a huge fan of Autumn. The green that I love turns orange and red, the kids are gone all day at school {yes, for me that’s a downside, lol}, and the weather turns chilly. I’ve always been more of a Spring and Summer girl.

But lately October has become one of my favorite months of the year. Wanna’ know why? ‘Cuz it’s TRUE SCRAP time in the hizzy, fer shizzle!!!

And October 11-12, 2013 is time for TRUE SCRAP 5. {If you’re signing up right away, make sure to use the discount code at the end of this article!}

Have you attended a True Scrap event yet? I’ve done 2 and if YOU haven’t … well, Sis, you are missing out. What is True Scrap 5? Here’s a description from the organizer herself, Lain Ehmann:

True Scrap is the galaxy’s ONLY online, live virtual paper crafting event. With inspiration brought right to your desktop, there’s no need to change out of your PJs because you’re logging on, right from home!

All your favorite people and things right in one place. Learn new skills while getting a new take on old favorites! And speaking of old favorites… you’re going to notice many familiar True Scrap instructors as well as some newcomers. Old or new, they’re sure to inspire with a passion for crafting. Can’t wait for you to join us!

And here is what’s included:

Inspiration and Education from 15 A-list instructors…
Five virtual project make-and-takes…
Pre-Event PJ Party…
Virtual goodie bag…
All for one low price…
All from YOUR computer!

Now that your brain is tick-tick-ticking, thinking, wondering if this is something you should do, let me tell about the classes/instructors and your answer will certainly be YES.

Project Life: My New Storage System for PL, Snap, MAMBI, and Other Scrapbooking Cards

Raise your hand if you’ve been collecting Project Life cards like they’re going out of style! MEEEEEE!!! ME ME ME!!!

I just jumped on the Project Life bandwagon this year. And the Sn@p! card bandwagon. And the MAMBI card bandwagon. And the free printables bandwagon.

Wow. That’s a lotta’ bandwagons! Must be why I have so many dang cards.

Here are the Project Life kits I have (so far, wink):

Blush
Honey {See why it’s my favorite Project Life kit HERE!}
Jade
Midnight
Slate
Wedding
Baby
Wellington
5th and Frolic

What I’ve been doing is buying partial kits, trading cards, and selling cards. I think the only kit I still have all the cards for is Baby and that’s because I’m going to use it for multiple baby books. Oh, and I have all of Wellington and Wedding but those are mini kits.

The large and small boxes that Project Life come in are very nice but they’re not a very efficient use of space, especially when you only own 1/4 or 1/3 of the larger kits. So I decided to throw away all the PL boxes and come up with a new storage system.

Requirements:

1. Easily accessible
Opening one lid is fine but I don’t wanna’ be opening cases inside of cases and I need to be able to flip through the cards.

2. Something I can label
I need to SEE the names not just SEE the cards. I’m weird like that.

3. Something I can keep on my desk
Another thing I didn’t like about keeping the cards in the original PL box was that they were too big to keep on my desk, so I had to go over to the bookshelf to get them every time I worked on my Project Life or a PL-type album.

One idea I’d thought about replicating was from LAYLE KONCAR at SIMPLE STORIES. She used one of those old cassette holders (in case you are disgustingly young, cassettes were music-playing things before iPods came along). She tilted it up and it’s genius how you can see all your cards so well with this system.

Alas, it didn’t meet requirements 2. and 3. above :(

I got this wild hair late Friday night so no time to go shopping for a storage system. I perused my stash and decided to use some plastic shoe boxes I got from Target awhile back. They were holding handmade cards I’ve received over the years and various mini albums, mostly made at CKU and such. So those things were dumped out and I need to find a new home for them now. Which is a pain.

But totally worth it because look how great my new Project Life card storage came out! All my PL cards are in there except Wellington which is on my desk as I’m currently working with it.

As you can see, the box on the left is for Project Life cards and on the right is for Sn@p!, MAMBI, free printables, and misc. cards like those calendar cards from ELLE’S STUDIO. I used lined Project Life 4×6 blank cards to create the dividers, along with washi tapes and my Brother label maker. No, I’m not super creative but it got the job done.

I’m so happy that all my Project Life, Sn@p!, MAMBI (can you say “Addicted!”???), and free printable cards are all in one place! Well, two places but you know what I mean. They sit to the right of my chair at my L-shaped desk. A divided tray with all my other Project Life-y type stuff sits to the left – washi, 6×6 pads, WRMK small pads, corner rounder, arrow punch, date stamps, ink, stickers, etc.

It gets very dusty in my scraproom so I love that this is covered storage. When I’m actively using them, I can slip the shoebox lids right underneath the boxes so they don’t take up extra room or flop backward covering other things like the PL boxes do. And when I’m not using them, they seal on the boxes tightly and keep the dust out.

Plus I {heart} hearts SO much! They just make me happy and I’m glad they’re now sitting so close to me at my desk instead of way across the room on that ol’ bookshelf like before. Now we can get to know each other better, maybe go out for a drink, play Scrabble, you know, that kind of thing.

So there’s my latest version of scrapbook storage for all those Project Life-type cards. What do you think? How are yours stored? I would love to hear!

Scrapbook Products: Scrapbooking Lap Desk at Michaels

I saw this when I was at Michaels recently and thought y’all might be interested in it. It’s a lapdesk specifically for scrapbookers made by Mike’s store brand, Recollections.

I think it’s a clever idea. So many scrappers don’t have a designated scrapbook space, others like to sit in bed to scrap or join their family in front of the TV. OOH! Or you could use it on long car rides!

The pink print is, well, kinda’ bright – but pink is one of my favorite colors so I’m down with that. And the price {retail $49.99} is a bit steep but they routinely put storage items on 40% or 50% off (if not, use a coupon!).

One the one hand, I don’t think I’d use that clip at the top on layouts as they probably intend for fear of damaging my paper. On the other hand, it could be handy to hold your pen, scissors, a journaling tag, etc.

What do you think? Do you like this new scrapbooking product at Michaels?

Scrapbook Organization: Current Year Memorabilia for Project Life

When I sat down last weekend to scrapbook, I *thought* it was just to work on Project Life. Finally. Other than a week I skipped ahead to in June, my Project Life layouts are only done through mid-February.

By the way, it’s July. In case you were wondering.

Please don’t report me to the Project Life Police! If they ask, you have the right to remain silent and if you talk to the po-po, I’ll crop you. For reals.

I’ve been taking photos almost every day, keeping notes, and collecting memorabilia. I’m not worried about being “behind” with my Project Life. It’ll all get into an album eventually. I’m busy. What’s new? Not gonna’ beat myself up about it.

Needless to say, I was excited to finally have a few hours to devote to scrapping. But I got sidetracked. Of course.

I put the photos I was going to use into their slots. For the days I didn’t have photos, I figured I’d see if I had any memorabilia – ticket stubs, business cards, receipts, invitations, etc. Maybe a flyer to jog my memory or a Post-It with a cute quote from the kids.

And that’s where the train went off the rails.

My version of “organizing memorabilia” this year has consisted of tossing everything into a basket on my desk. It’s a very bad thing, Martha.

It was all in one place {an improvement over years past, I must say} but certainly not in order. I could’ve just plucked out the things from February but what fun would that be!?!?

I felt the call to ORGANIZE. Right then and there.

Hmmm . . . what to use? My first thought was file folders by month so I grabbed 12 from my office supply stash and started to label them. Then I remembered that I had 8.5 x 11 clear page protectors with a monthly calendar in each one that I printed for free from MISS TIINA. {Super cute, right?}

Originally I had planned to put them in my PL album as kind of dividers between the months. But when I tried it, I didn’t like it. So they were sitting in a basket on my desk just hangin’ out, loitering, cutting class, smoking, generally just being future felons. I decided to put them to work.

I filled each of the page protector/calendars up with all the loose bits of memorabilia from each month. It worked out really nicely and I feel so much better now. Phew. I can find stuff.

I was able to get that week of PL from February done, including a coffee cozy from my favorite latte’, a sticker from a dental appointment reminder card, and a funny quote from one of the kids.

I’ve tried many different methods of sorting memorabilia over the years – accordion files, manila envelopes, and stacking trays to name but a few – and never been happy. They were hard to access and see what’s inside, little bits fall to the bottom, things get dusty, etc.

But this one may be a winner. I’m thinking once I’m done pulling stuff out for the current month’s Project Life spreads, I’ll store the page protectors in 8.5 x 11 albums by year. I can access them again later for everyday, sports, school, or special events layouts. For all the bits that never get scrapped, just having those little memories of daily life could be fun to flip through in the future.

And now when I get another chance to work on my Project Life, say in May of 2014-ha, it’ll be a piece of cake. Mmmm, c-a-a-a-k-e.

Oh, um … yeah, I’m back!

How do you tame the memorabilia monster? I would love to hear about it!
