This is the last post in a series about the scrapbooking booths I visited at CHA 2016. If you’d like to see all the posts in the series, please click HERE.
Well, this is the end of my CHA blog series. Is it bad to end it with Unlucky 13?
I just wanted to wrap up my experience there this year with some final thoughts and impressions. And add anything I forgot to say :) ‘Cuz I’m a straggler like that.
State of the Scrapbooking Industry?
As I was taking photos, I overheard a conversation amongst those working in a booth. They were saying how this year it seemed like the crowds were definitely thinner; one estimated there was about 1/3 as many shoppers as usual. I wasn’t there last year but from 2 years ago, I would agree the attendance was down a bit. Not 1/3 the amount of people but maybe 2/3 as many. I’m no math major but I think our estimates differ by quite a bit, LOL. I wonder if the attendee numbers are available? Hmm…
One thing I noticed was that in many of the scrapbook vendor booths I visited, company reps were talking to Spanish-speaking women placing orders. I thought that was encouraging about the scrapbook market in Spanish-speaking countries; is it booming? Hope so!
In fact, I heard people speaking languages from all over the world, not just in scrapbooking areas but all over the CHA show floor. Again, I took comfort in that and was pleased by it. #craftingisinternational
Who Was and Wasn’t at CHA 2016
Paperclipping wasn’t there doing videos; online someone said they lost their sponsorship and someone else said their child had something going on but since Phoenix is their home turf, they’ll probably be there next year. I haven’t kept up with the Paperclipping podcast or their message boards so I’m not sure what’s correct. If you know, please leave a comment!
I thought perhaps Nancy Nally from Scrapbook Update wasn’t there but I see now from her recent blog post that she was at CHA. Boo! I missed her this time.
Basic Grey was noticably absent :( They were my favorite booth to visit last time, mainly because of the lovely conversation I had with owner Rachel Brenchly.
Big Change to CHA in 2017
Next year, CHA will move to Phoenix and will be 3 days instead of 4. I mentioned it to several people I talked to and the consensus was that Phoenix is more geographically desirable to many scrapbook companies, but everyone will miss going to Disneyland.
Free Classes
I attended a free 15-minute class about e-mail marketing called “Create the Perfect Subject Line to Get Your Emails Opened.” As someone who handles social media for companies as a living, I see a lot of mistakes being made with this in the scrapbooking industry. I wish there’d been more of an audience for this class.
VENDORS I Visited but HAVE No Photos
Echo Park/Carta Bella
The booth was very busy. I wasn’t able to get photos of the lines displayed because there were staff and customers standing in front of them. It seemed like they were taking several orders and that’s a great sign.
Pink Fresh Studio
They had one of the smaller booths and didn’t have a ton of product displayed but I believe they’re fairly new. Someone with a nice video camera was waiting to interview them so I stayed on the outskirts :) I love their products and wish I’d remembered to look for the “Life Noted” acrylic letters I Pinned that included “Meh” – dang, wanted to see those in person!
Random Photos
The Spellbinders wall with some amazing paper garlands!
Create and Craft TV
Remember when I talked about them here? Well, they film live shows at CHA which is pretty cool.
Hey, that’s Teresa Collins!
Speaking of Scrapbook “Celebs”
Here’s who-all I saw at CHA this time, whether I spoke to them or just lurked, LOL:
Becky Higgins
Teresa Collins
Ali Edwards
Shimelle Laine
Julie McGuffee
Layle Koncar
Vicki Boutin
Amy Tangerine
Paige Evans
Cathy Zielske
All Good Days Must Come to an End
I knew it was a long shot but I wanted to see if there were any scrapbook stores in Anaheim that I could slip into before leaving town. Here is the sad return I got for my search :(
I had to drive through downtown LA because of some traffic on my usual route …. only to sit in more traffic. But, hey, it’s LA. Plus it was Golden Globes night. I tried to just enjoy the view.
Catalogs and Such
When I got home and had time to look in my CHA tote, this is what I had. Some came with and others were handed to me in booths I visited.
So that was my CHA 2016 experience! I hope you enjoyed being along for the ride and that I didn’t inundate you with too many posts.
I just heard from a scrappy friend in Southern Cal that her Tuesday Morning has a BUNCH of BASIC GREY! Lots of embellishments: brads, ephemera, toothpick flags, resins, stamp stickers, die cuts, journal pads, etc. Most are 99 cents. No paper though, boo! I haven’t bought much BG lately (most of my scrappy dough has been going to AMERICAN CRAFTS paper, storage items, and WRMK albums) – so now I have to make ANOTHER trip to Tuesday AM, darn! ;)
Sorry, I don’t have any photos of the Basic Grey to share but it reminded me that I never posted all these Tuesday Morning scrappy pics I took last month.
GLITTER, GLITTER GLUE, and PENS
TIM HOLTZ and 7 GYPSIES
SCRAPPY STORAGE BOXES
EMBELLIES plus that cute little HEART BURLAP BOX caught my eye
STICKERS and EMBELLISHMENTS
SO MUCH PAPER that it was overwhelming. I couldn’t even look at it all!
PAGE PROTECTORS and ALBUMS
STUDIO CALICO and PEBBLES
Don’t forget to look on the top shelf – all that PAPER and CARDSTOCK!
Look in the other craft-y areas too. There are scrapbooking items mixed in.
Great price on a set of WRMK PUNCHES
The glare is terrible but those are American Crafts Flutterbys on the top left.
Great items for SCRAPBOOK STORAGE
Be careful. Lots of crooked embellishments! I wanted those wine ones but they were horrible! :(
MORE STUFF
And, just for my Peep friends, BIRDY BLANKETS!
I have even MORE photos from Tuesday Morning from a more recent visit to their scrapbook section. I need to get them uploaded, then I’ll blog those too so stay tuned! Remember when I said that Tuesday Morning had a NEW CRAFTS BUYER? Well, I’d say she’s doing a great job, wouldn’t you?
– So love to see our scrappy girl ELSIE making waves in the big world!
– Time for Lain’s free September scrapinar. Just click here for more details and sign up, if you like. If you can’t make the scrapinar time, you’ll get a free replay to watch at your leisure – but you have to register beforehand.
– Have you seen these YEARBOOK PRINTABLES by Project Life? What a fun and easy yearbook you could make for thuh kiddo!
It’s always been known as National Scrapbook Day here in the ol’ US of A but with scrapbooking being such a global community, I’ve noticed a lot of scrappers now referring to it as International Scrapbook Day or iNSD which I think is awesome!
I hope you’re having a day full of scrappy goodness. I have to work today (boo hoo) but – purely in the interest of promoting our hobby and doing something scrappy today – I plan to hit a few of the online NSD sales and see what trouble I can get into ;)
I’m also planning to talk by phone with a long-time online scrapbook friend later this morning. We’ve “known” each other for years but this will be the first time we’ve spoken. I cherish the friendships I’ve made through this blog and the scrapbook message boards I’m on. In fact, one of my BFF’s is someone I met through a scrapbook MB <3.
I wanted to share a freebie that I KNOW you’re gonna’ like – and it’s from one of my fave companies, SIMPLE STORIES.
These free printables go with their brand new “Good Day Sunshine” line and HERE is the link. It can take a while to load so be patient, girlie.
Also, check out one of my other fave companies, BASIC GREY today! You can get this FREE PRINTABLE . . .
and they’re having a great sale, giveaways, etc.
Man, you need to go strolling around the scrappy internet today. There are so many sales, freebies, games, giveaways, and challenges! And THIS is why interNational Scrapbook Day is one of my favorite holidays of the year :)
LOVE TO ALL MY SCRAPPIN’ FRIENDS and HAPPY interNATIONAL SCRAPBOOK DAY!!!!

As I talked about in THIS post, I was lucky enough to find an AWESOME scrapbook store while in Arizona recently. {If you haven’t read that post yet, ya’ gotta’ if you want a laugh}.
Now it’s time to show you the haul from my trip to Scrapbooks Etc. in Mesa, Arizona.
Here’s the bag of pretties I brought home :) Note: If you click on any of the photos below, they will enlarge.
So, I took the photos, downloaded and edited them, then realized I forgot to include the Kaisercraft cards in this photo. So pretend they’re there, mmm kay? The budget I’d set for myself was $30 and you can see that I went over that just a teensy bit. Wonderful restraint though, if I do say so myself!!
They had a sale going: Buy 10 sheets of $1 paper and get the 11th free. Well, it was my duty to buy 10 sheets of paper, right?? Right.
First, 5 sheets of October Afternoon “Daily Flash”. I officially love and, yes, want to marry that sheet on top with the distressed teal stripes. Well, it would be a plural marriage because I need the bokeh paper in my life always as well.
Here are the backs of those same OA papers:
Here’s 1 sheet of American Crafts “Daydreamer” from Dear Lizzy. Don’t worry; I’m not going to say AGAIN how much I love hearts. Because you already know I love hearts. I say I love hearts ALLLL the time. I mean, why do you need to hear again how much I love hearts?!?! You really don’t <3 <3 <3
Next are 5 sheets of Basic Grey “Capture”. My favorite (OBVI!) is the turquoise on one side and turquoise/green on the other. I don’t like being faced with Sophie’s Choice, so I just bought 3 sheets of it – 2 to use for a turquoise background on a 2-pager and 1 to use the striped side.
Here’s the other side of the BG papers. Oh look, those stripes again!
So there are my “buy 10 get 1 free” sheets of $1 scrapbook paper :)
Here’s all the cards spread out and where you can see both sides:
Are they not lovely!?!? I adore this color scheme. I do a lot of beach pocket page scrapping and these will be perfect-a-mundo!
The flowery bits are not my favorite but, ya know, every card has 2 sides, LOL. I love everything else about these cards. The distressed teals and beiges, sayings, and other designs with banners, dots, chevrons, etc.
I also got 5 sheets of Echo Park “Fun In The Sun” – bright, cheerful pastels, bikes, cameras, trees, and flowers. These were only 49 cents a sheet; I think I found them on the bargain table I mentioned in my last post.
Here are the other sides of the Echo Park papers. This will be a great line to use for Project Life pages.
The only garage sale item I left the store with: a pack of paper for only 5 buckaroonies! It came with 37 cardstock-weight sheets of paper. I don’t love all of them and there are lots of duplicates but, at a mere 13 cents per sheet, I’m not complaining :)
Here are the backs of the same papers above.
I batched together my 3 favorite sets. I don’t know who makes these but they look lovely together and I like the mix of patterns and color. Very useable, don’t you think?
These papers aren’t labeled either but they’re great for Halloween layouts.
My absolute faves and why I bought the pack: These papers from the Teresa Collins “Memories” line. Such fresh colors and designs. The paper is very heavy and also textured. I imagine these must retail for AT LEAST $1 per sheet and since I got 5 sheets, there’s the $5 I spent on the whole pack. The rest of the papers are just scrapbook gravy :)
At $10, that took a big chunk of my budget but totally worth it. I *had* to have the wood veneer 3×4 and 4×6 cards plus the whole set is just so stinkin’ pretty.
Then I got the 2 little bags (they were sold seperately but look like Allison Kreft?) and the Doodlebug coffee stickers. ‘Cuz I might, um, be a little addicted to coffee. And take photos of it. And scrapbook them. Just maybe.
Well, there ya’ go . . . my shopping haul from Scrapbooks Etc. Hope you enjoyed!
PS: I did hit up one other store while in Arizona. I’m not gonna’ pretend it was as awesome as this store but I did manage (ahem) to find some more scrappy goodies. Stay tuned for another store review and scrapbook haul!
I was recently traveling in Arizona and had the opportunity to visit two local scrapbook stores (LSS). This is a real treat since the closest LSS to my home is 2 hours away. So I warn you now, there are LOTS of photos and I have a LOT to say!! I’ll have to do 2 blog posts. What?! I’m wordy! Sheesh.
The first scrapbook store I visited in the Phoenix area was “Scrapbooks Etc.” in Mesa, AZ . . . or as it’s now called, “Etc. Scrapbooks, Fabric & More”. The name change appears to be because they’ve added fabrics to about 1/3 of the store. I’m no sewist but I think that’s a brilliant move! Way to stay viable, AZ scrap store owners!
I’m just gonna’ say from the beginning: I loved this store! It’s one of the biggest and best I’ve ever been to. They had loads of current stuff, I liked the way the store was laid out, and they had lots to offer the customer.
Yep, I managed to show up on their Scrapbook Yard Sale day – woot! It started at 10am so I got there about 9:45. I was greeted by a super long line outside the store. I texted DH at 9:48: “Garage sale starts at 10. There’s about 50 women in line. Hold my earrings. Mama might need to throw down!” He cheered me on: “They got nothin’ on u.”
Just kidding, just kidding. I got back in my car, drove across the street, and got a Starbucks. I’m not the aggressive type {even with a latte’ under my belt}.
The yard sale was held in the classroom and here is what it looked like {faces have been blurred to protect the guilty . . . er, innocent}:
Here’s a sample of the goodies to be found at the Scrapbooks Etc. garage sale – a Simple Stories “Summer Fresh” pack for $7. I think that 6×6 pad alone sells for $6, so that’s a nice deal :)
I grabbed a few packs of things and literally had to escape that room so I could find a clear surface to check out the goods. And where did I end up!?!? At the Scrapbooks Etc. sale/clearance table in the back of the store. Where I found more deals. Sheesh. It’s like too much of a good thing, I tell ya’!
One thing from the garage sale I held onto was a BASIC GREY “BLUSH” collection pack. Here’s the tag sheet from the collection kit – “Blush” is SO yummy!
I think it was $7-8 and only missing a few sheets. Again, a good deal but it didn’t make the final cut in favor of NEW scrappy stuff!! I don’t get to an LSS but a few times a year so I didn’t want to miss the chance to get some newer things when I could actually see them in person. Yes, it’s a luxury these days :(
Okay, so if you’re a BAZZILL Babe like I am, you’ll want to sit down for this. Or at least hold onto a hand rail or something. Ready?? I give you. THE GREAT WALL OF BAZZILLLLLLL!!!!
Isn’t all that color and texture and paper goodness so PURDY??? I almost swallowed my tongue! GULP!
I can’t find it now but I swore I read earlier that the husband of the Scrapbooks Etc. owner owns (or works for?) Bazzill Basics. Which would make sense judging by their huge selection of Bazzill cardstock and other Bazzill papers.
Speaking of pretty colors, I just had to take a pic of all those pretty WRMK album colors all in a row. Gorge!
Scrapbooks Etc. had most products arranged by manufacturer which is how I prefer to shop. Here’s some new Dear Lizzy and Amy Tan, both by American Crafts:
I *so* wanted this Amy Tan “Mixtapes” pack but that price took up too much of my budget.
You’re a scrapper, you get it, right? You stand there in the store aisle, fondling the “$11 for 6 bitty rolls of washi tape” and have this internal conversation:
“You should get this. It’s sooper dooper cute!”
“I know, but ELEVEN DOLLARS! And the tapes are so skinny!”
“Yes, yes, but that’s what makes them so preciously KYUTE!”
“Precious smeshious, do you know how much PAPER I could buy with $11?”
“Well. Okay. You do have a good point there. Put them back.”
“But but but! But I want the cute little skinny Amy Tan washi! And if I buy it online, I have to pay $92 shipping on $11 worth of 6 skinny rolls of washi tape!”
“GUUUURRRLLL. Put. The washi tape. Back. NOW.
“(Kicking ground). Fine. It’s back. Jeez.”
Yeah, I put the washi tape back. But it was PAINFUL, I tell ya’!
These Dear Lizzy mini flair badges were very hard to pass up, too. Just darling.
They had a great selection of this new new Basic Grey:
One thing I loved was the little product vignettes they have around the store. They make very appealing displays with new products that make you want to buy things. Wicked smart! Here are just 2 but there were several more:
Colorful Doodlebug Goodness:
All these little packs of puffy arrows, chevrons, and punctuation were KILLIN’ me, Smalls. I very much coveted that shades of teal blue one in the middle.
But at $5 a pack, I had to pass :( You don’t want to hear the conversation-with-self I had about THAT! I almost socked myself in the jaw right then and there. But the Good Angel won. Again.
Here’s a shot of the fabric side of the store. They seemed pretty busy and I could hear the counter person answering lots of customer questions. Seems like a great set-up.
Teresa Collins “Happy” which is so much prettier in person than online.
Teresa Collins “Save the Date” which, me being married for so long, I didn’t think I’d be interested in. But, man, the colors were so pretty. I was seriously considering re-engaging and re-marrying my man just so I could use it.
The epoxy/enamel heart down there was callin’ my name. Have I mentioned I LOVE HEARTS?? Yeah, maybe once or thrice.
An entire wall of SIMPLE STORIES. Um, when can I move in, please? Starbucks across the street, rainbows of Bazzill, WRMK, and Doodlebug, AND a Simple Stories neighborhood – what more do I need to sustain life?
KAISERCRAFT is one company I’m not very familiar with but their products sure caught my eye! I ended up with a pack of their 3×4 cards; guess which one? {I’ll reveal in a “Scrapbooks Etc. Haul” post later}.
They also have Project Life Island. See? I never need to go anywhere else :) I’m set.
There was a big Accucut station; a die-cutter’s dream.
October Afternoon . . . squee!!
I think these were garage sale shoppers checking out their loot or deciding what to buy. I totally get it, ladies. Take your time. If I step on you, smack me.
More October Afternoon:
Fancy Pants:
Whole row of Bazzill Basics patterned paper:
Ahh, My Minds Eye rotating racks, I’ve missed you!
So that’s my tour and review of Scrapbooks Etc. in Mesa, Arizona. I highly suggest you visit if you’re in the area. Or in an adjacent state. It’s worth it, LOL. Wonderful store and I hope I’m able to visit many more times in the future!
Stay tuned to see what goodies I bought there!
ETA 03-30-15: Kind of a sad update. I hear from an online friend who was at Scrapbooks Etc. recently that it has shrunk in both size and number of new products since last year when I went. They’ve remodeled the store into a smaller space at the same location and decreased the inventory accordingly. Boo hoo. Still probably a better store than most, though . . .
ETA 07-31-16: Well, I heard a while back that more of Scrapbooks Etc. had been converted to sewing products. Now I hear the sad news that they are closing altogether effective the end of July 2016 :(
Same owners since 1999!
We are sad to say that we are closing the store officially August 6th. July 28th-July 30th the store will be open from 10am-6pm and August 1st-6th the store will be open from 10am-3pm.
There will be no open lab for the remainder of us being open.
In November (or should I type Novemeber? ha!) of 2012, I started a blog post with a list and images of scrapbook typos and errors.
This paper from Basic Grey started it all, and it really is a motherlode of errors:
I had no idea at the time that 7 months later I would still be adding to the list and that it would have grown to 34+ PRODUCTS with typos or errors, some with multiple errors on one product!
And that’s not even counting the typos mentioned that I haven’t been able to find images for yet, like the MAMBI cards. {Apparently, there are even more errors than the ones they corrected in their blog post}.
I can’t thank you enough – the Commenters on my blog and the crazy girls at Two Peas – for continuing to share errors y’all find. {Side note: I just learned from a Southern gal that I’ve been typing that wrong all these years; it’s “y’all” not “ya’ll” like I thought. Dur. See? Even perfect people like me make mistakes! :P}.
I spent 2 hours today updating the typos and errors post, adding new products and adding more errors to products already listed. For example, 1 October Afternoon sticker sheet has 3 errors found (so far … wink).
So if you haven’t read the post yet, or haven’t read it in a while, please go check it out HERE. You’ll laugh your head off … or cry … as the case may be.
And keep those errors coming! I’m sure there will be more :)
As you may know, I have a thing about typos in scrapbook magazines and in published layouts. Well, how about typos in scrapbooking products??
In this Two Peas THREAD, a Pea points out that there’s an error in this BASIC GREY “Shift” paper from the “Lucille” line:
She was referring to the phrase “Cut on the Bais” which should say “bias.” But as the thread went along, astute Peas began finding more and more problems with this single sheet of Basic Grey scrapbook paper. It would be sad if it weren’t so freakin’ funny. Jeez.
– “cut along the the dotted line” with “the” twice
– “fulness” with one L
– “throed” instead of thread
Did I miss any? I’m on a laptop so it’s hard to read the fine print.
All of this reminded me of other typos in scrapbook products, like these from TERESA COLLINS “Butterfly” paper from the “Tell Your Story” collection:
– “because of you have lived” (top right)
– “it is never to late” (middle left)
– bad punctuation throughout
And THEN there was this one by MY MIND’S EYE, from the Indie Chic line:
ETA 11/08/12: Found some more!
From the WRMK “Friends Furever” line, paper called “Furry Friends” … see if you can find it :)
“A house is not a home without dog.” Hee.
“Glitter Lucky Lime” paper from the “Heat Wave” collection by AMERICAN CRAFTS
Do you wear “sandles” to the beach?
This one is more challenging … from “Arizona” paper by the STAMPING STATION:
“Sendona” in the purple section … should be Sedona. SUPPOSEBLY there are other typos in that one but I don’t know Arizona well enough to catch any of them. If you see any others, please let me know in Comments.
It’s mostly been papers so far but here is a flaw in the “Sports” design cartridge for Slice by MAKING MEMORIES:
That one made me literally LOL . . . FOUR!!
And here is a stamp set with a minor apostrophe issue – that would probably only bug the truly picky. From the “Nauti-Cool” set by WILSON DESIGNS STAMPS:
“Fathers Day” is missing one.
Here are 3 more in a stamp set by the same company! From “Gnomebody Like You”:
Maybe they sell a little apostrophe stamp separately and you’re just supposed to insert “you’re” own where appropriate?
Here’s some more paper . . . CRATE PAPER “June” from the “Portrait” collection:
It’s “Janurary” now, is it?
According to a Pea, the online version of this American Crafts “Soho Garden” chipboard is correct:
But the one she bought at an LSS says “I am Home When I am”. Wow, so existential! {Thanks Tina!}
How about this one from STUDIO CALICO‘s “Classic 3 Alpha Sheet”?
I guess it’s fine as long as you don’t need to spell “December Daily” or “Dead as a Doornail” or “Delightfully Delicious” ;)
{Thanks to Ann from CALI CRAFTS for that one!}
Here’s another one . . . from the DCWV “Guy Stack”.
It says “COUCH” instead of “COACH”. Like Patti said, “I think this one by DCWV might be a Freudian slip by some disgruntled wife.” Ha!
ETA 11/09/12: I’m adding some more. Thanks for telling me about them everyone! I still can’t believe there are so many . . .
MY MIND’S EYE “Christmas” die cuts from the “Lost and Found” line:
Ah, the lovely month of . . . Decemeber??
From the “Note to Self” line from ECHO PARK, the “Quotes” paper has a frequent pet peeve of grammar girls . . .
SHIMELLE did such a good job of explaining it, I’m just going to quote her:
It’s versus its drives me absolutely batty, so this paper sets my teeth on edge.
(If ‘it’s’ has an apostrophe, it is ALWAYS ‘it is’. The possessive of its is just like his and hers, which is not hi’s and her’s. It’s such a common error that I know I should just get over it, but instead, it glares more and more at me! I also have nightmares about making the mistake myself just because it bothers me so much, and especially with autocorrect it is easy to make.)
ETA 06-22-13: As Andrea in Comments pointed out, “There’s another typo on that Echo Park ‘Note to Self’ paper – ‘Your Guess Is As Good Mine’ is missing another ‘as.’ Good pull, Andrea!
I have to admit I probably would’ve missed this one from OCTOBER AFTERNOON‘s “Rocket Age” word stickers:
Near the bottom is a strip that says “Into the Great Unkown” . . . Thanks for the tip, zonefan!
ETA 06-22-13: Shelly49 at Two Peas pointed this out … “In the strip at the very bottom that says ‘Thats one small step…’ Should be That’s.” Thanks!
And in Comments, Ellen says, “I think October Afternoon’s ‘Rocket Age’ has another error. I believe ‘Wiz Kid’ is a wizard child. ‘Whiz Kid’ is an intelligent or smart child.”
Here’s some interesting paper from CP’s “Fourteen” line:
Aw, CRATE PAPER, another one? I mean, TWO? The months of the year really seem to trip up these manus, don’t they? {Thanks Elise!}
ETA 12-15-12: Just found another one in an e-mail I got for a sale ;)
In the Giant Rhinestone Kit from “Cashmere Dame” by GLITZ DESIGN …
Shouldn’t it be HUBBA HUBBA? {I’m pronouncing this is “hugh-buh hugh-buh”}. Such a bummer because I would’ve bought those otherwise. I love all their stuff … it’s so purdy. Oh, and there were typos in the e-mail, too ;)
ETA 02-09-13: Had to do a whole ‘nother post about THIS ONE because it hit so close to home :(
ETA 03-24-13: Oh noes! My fave company let another one through … from Simple Stories new line “24/7”:
Thanks threecs! Ironically, “picture” is spelled correctly here … and then not.
ETA 05-03-13: MAMBI made a big OOPS on their pocket page cards – but they tried to make it right. See all the deets HERE.
ETA 05-17-13: PennyPaws at TwoPeas posted this recently:
Pebbles’ Lakeside Collection “Summer Camp”, and the B side has different categories like “Food”, “Crafts”, First Aid”, etc… It has a box with “Troup #” written in it… Thinking they meant “troop”.
Thanks for taking a photo of that, PennyPaws! I couldn’t find an image online anywhere, even Pebbles own website ;)
ETA 05-21-13: According to a Pea in THIS THREAD, there are even more mistakes being found in the MAMBI cards but I don’t have specifics or pictures, sorry :(
ETA 06-22-13: Now it’s Carta Bella’s turn for a typo. This one is on their “Well Played” border strips paper:
In the 4th row from the top and on the very bottom strip is the same quote from Charles M. “Shultz” … whose last name was in fact spelled “Shulz.”
Little personal note on this one: My mom actually met Mr. Shulz back in the 1970s when he came through her workplace; she worked for a man who would later become President of the US :) She grabbed a piece of scrap paper from the copier and Mr. Shulz drew a Snoopy for her little son, my brother (I was still a twinkle in my parents’ eyes at that point). Many years later after he passed away, my mom donated that drawing to the CHARLES M. SHULZ Museum and Research Center. Cool, huh?
ETA 06-22-13: Now I’m going to catch up on other typos that have been sent to me but haven’t been added to this post yet. You guys have been SO great about sending me the typos and errors you find in scrapbooking products. Please keep them coming! I love to include links to your blogs, Twitter, or whatever else you like – so include those too, please. Okay, here we go …
From an American Crafts “Remarks” pack (I’m not sure which line?), you can go over the “mountians.” How do you pronounce that? Moun-chins?
And from a WRMK “Cristmas” paper … (ETA 04-01-14: My own ‘WMRK’ typo fixed!)
Glitz Design is represented again, with a stamp set from their “Yours Truly” line … or should I say “Your’s Truly”?
Thanks Shane_Marie from Two Peas! I love your post: “Unless Glitz were wanting to be mind-bendingly philosophical: can a possession be possessive? Or possessiveness possess? Or…
Nah, it’s just a typo ;) ”
This one isn’t a typo or error per se but maybe unintended scrap-p*rn from Basic Grey? It’s an image in their True Love Collection “Kissing Tree” paper. Usually my mind is firmly in the gutter, but I would never have noticed this one!
So I’m glad that Heather is an observant one. Check out her hilarious BLOG ENTRY for the full story.
Pink Paislee “Snow Day” Bitty Blocks alphas – do you see what’s missing?
Let’s just say it’s a good thing there are plenty of d’s that you can turn upside-down. Sheesh. Thanks for that one, AndreaK from Two Peas!
Crate Paper is back. Below in Comments, Alyssa says there’s a typo in their Portrait line “Accent Cuts” sheet with “Administration” misspelled.
This is the largest image I can find and on my laptop screen, I can’t see the error but hope you can!
Patrice in Comments pointed out this one by Bo Bunny. On their “We The People” paper, it says United STATE of America.
I guess one state WOULD be really united with itself, huh?
I think this is Project Life’s first entry into the typo game. It’s from the “Midnight” edition:
Thanks Melissa for finding the image on Instagram! If anyone knows whose pic that is, please let me know … I’d love to credit them.
Pebbles Inc. “Family Ties” line has a typo in their Journaling and Phrase Cards:
On the top right, it should say WE’RE not WERE. Thanks Just Me the Pea! You also mentioned another error in the MAMBI cards but I don’t have a pic of it:
“In the MAMBI PL card set, think it is called ‘A Kid’s Life’. I remember one of the typos was something like ‘things I like play with’. ACK I wish I had it in front of me. But I know it was a typo because two of the cards said that and two other cards said “things I like TO play with” so I knew the other 2 cards were wrong.”
I almost hate to mention that Crate Paper has yet ANOTHER typo. It’s from an older line “Farmhouse” and the paper is called “Apple Pie”.
JESS AMAZING did such a good job explaining and providing an image, I’ll let her do the talking (copied from her post on Two Peas):
“I have another one for you! It’s older, but Crate Paper’s ‘Apple Pie’ paper had a numbered ledger design featuring the number 23 twice. I was so annoyed when I found this, after having taken the time to cut & adhere perfectly so as to use it for an actual list. Fortunately, it was a list of 25 so I just layered a sticker over the last few numbers. Annoying”
From the Dear Lizzy “Little Trinket” paper from the “Lucky Charm” line, we have repeated use of the word “vingtage”. Oy.
Thanks for the tip, leisa77!
Here’s another one from my fave company, Simple Stories. It’s on one of the Title Strip Elements papers in the “Summer Fresh” line. Here’s the paper – but you can’t see the error here – it’s covered:
If you go to the Simple Stories blog HERE, you can scroll down and see the error. (I can’t copy the image here because it includes ALL of those papers and is rather large).
“The typed quote strip reads, ‘Let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we see.’ The verb they wanted was ‘lie,’ not ‘lay.’ Probably not a typo so much as a common grammar flub.”
Thanks tsabhira from Two Peas!
In Comments, Jill pointed out some problems with the 7 Gypsies “Postale” line. On the “Priority” paper, the oh-so-important word PRIORITY is spelled PRIORTY. Oopsie!
This one isn’t a typo on the product itself but the packaging. It’s on the enamel dots from the MME “Find Your Wings and Fly” collection.
I mean the acrylic stamps. I mean the enamel dots. Jeesh, I’m so confused! {Thanks Stephanie!}
KBPea pointed out this one, from a WRMK tag:
Which is kinda’ freaky-deaky because in a post I wrote earlier today (before I saw this tag posted) that will post Monday AM, I wrote about how I just learned that I’ve been spelling y’all wrong for years and years. Am I the only one (well, other than WRMK) who’s been spelling it wrong? LOL
ETA 09/08/13: Time to add a few more I’ve been told about . . .
From a paper in the Studio Calico “Snippets” line. Notice anything missing?
Rebecca from the HOW I BURB blog points out, “They must not like Halloween” :)
ETA 01-25-14: As noted by Joyatee, Sherrie and Melissa Kaye in Comments, they also spelled “Janurary” incorrectly. Two mistakes in one paper.
From the Project Life “Honey” edition, again – something is missing here. A couple of somethings, in fact.
Thanks to Audrey, who tipped me off in Comments below!
I actually have this “Mother’s Day” album kit from WRMK but my friend Abby is the one who pointed out the error, and sent me this great pic with the cool arrow :)
C’mon, WRMK. “Your” SURE you proofread that? Bwahahahaha!
How about this one {maybe kinda’ two} from Studio Calico’s “Storytime – Baby Boy” line?
Here’s the pic provided by the vendor. Some think that the way “To the Moon & Back” is written looks more like “The To Moon & Back” and I tend to agree. I know it’s ‘art’ but it’s hard to read.
Here’s the typo though in the actual item sent out.
CUTE
BABY
GIRL???
What the hay? Shouldn’t the entirely blue sheet have been an indicator that it should say BOY??? {Thanks TAMMI!}
ETA 10-14-13: Fellow Pea Valerie mentioned this one . . . “It’s” a problem with the “Good Tidings” Frame Tags by Chic Tags.
Seems like “it’s” often those apostrophes that are throwing people off. It is = it’s.
ETA 01-21-14: Thank you to LINDA in Comments for pointing out this one from PINK PAISLEE:
The alphabet on the left has no “W” stickers! Guess you’d better not plan on doing a layout about Winter Wonderland :)
ETA 01-25-14: Mentioned on Two Peas was an error in one of the 3×4 cards in the new Project Life CORAL set, which I happened to have so I took a photo:
Before my coffee, it does feel like a morning “rountine” sometimes :P Gennifer posted: “My friend is the one who designed that kit. IIRC, she caught the error and corrected it before they were printed, but somehow the original file was mistakenly sent instead of the corrected one.” How frustrating that must be.
I’ll call this one a wobbler. The Peas were debating whether there’s a typo or misspelling in this sticker sheet from “Family Traditions” by Webster’s Pages:
Do you think “cooky” is an okay alternate spelling of “kooky” or is that misspelled?
Thanks to patowle at Two Peas for pointing this one out – from My Minds Eye “The Sweetest Thing” Tiny Word Stickers:
I wonder if MME has caught the “engergetic” error yet; it’s still posted on their website with the misspelling.
ETA 06-03-14: A popular online scrapbook store sent out an e-mail today offering this sticker sheet for only 1 cent – whoo hoo!
Wait, what? Paying full price for this would be like a ‘firecraker’ blowing up in your face, eh? {Guess we figured out why it’s such a great deal, ha!}
Thank you to sweet scrapper TinkGumby (Maria) for sharing this one (: (: (:
ETA 08-01-15:
The first one is in this WRMK Albums Made Easy journal card pack:
Wha’ HAPPEND?!?
Oh dear.
Thanks for the tip-off for that one, Liana!
The second one is from a Teresa Collins “Save the Date” 12×12 paper called “The Details.”
“Your my best friend” fer sure.
Thanks, katyscrap!
The next 2 errors are from a brand new collection by Echo Park called “Teacher’s Pet” …
I don’t think the proofreader made the “honor role” in school :P
And this one from the same line is a misquote instead of a typo:
As you can see from the book cover, the correct quote should include “you’ll” as opposed to “you will.”
Credit goes to Laura for finding these two.
*************
What do you think about all of these errors in scrapbooking products? Annoying? Unconscionable? Or “oh well”?
Personally, they drive me crazy. Yes, transcriptionist and English major here so I notice things that maybe others wouldn’t. But even if typos didn’t generally bug me, I’m paying for a product and expect it to be proofread, for gosh sakes.
Is it due to economic hardships for the companies, fewer employees, can’t afford the time to proofread? What? I find it ironic – if that is even the case – that there is a whole world of scrapbookers out here who would LOVE to proof new products and would even do it for FREE. C’mon, scrapbook companies, I’m here for ya’!!
So tell me your thoughts on the matter even IF* you’re just “meh” about it all. And let me know of other scrapbook product typos you’ve come across. I’ll post them here :)
*Typo fixed! Was there only one in this whole post!?! LOL
ETA 01-04-14: Another typo fixed :P
LOVE! They’re very STUDIO CALICO to me, which is another company whose stuff I almost always love. I like how BG has been releasing 2 collections together that are different but complement each other so well.
I also like these departures from “matchy-matchy” papers. Somehow they manage to make totally different designs and colors look like they go together. When I see lines like this on layouts, they’re always eye catching.
I’ll be getting these Basic Grey collections for sure. I love them both . . . but “Fact” slightly more. You put a composition notebook and chevrons on something, and I’m SO there.
What do you think of these 2 new collections so far?
ETA 09/29/12: Welllll . . . I found some more images for “Fact” and “Fiction”, and it appears that it’s not TWO new lines but ONE new line called “Fact & Fiction” with 2 paper pads and shared embellishments. Wait ’til you see!
So should I be thrilled or scared that I absolutely ADORE this entire “Fact & Fiction” line?!?!? Yikes. Must have about 90% of this. Word on the street is that it will be exclusively sold at Joann craft stores and be part of a Studio Calico kit. I haven’t confirmed that yet . . . just hearing the rumors.
If so, I’ll be BEGGIN’ someone near a Joann’s to pick up all these goodies for me! Gotta’ have it.
Okay, so NOW what do you think of “Fact & Fiction”? A must have or a no go?

Which of the above “trendy” lines is your favorite?
Carol left this comment on my last organization post, written 9 days ago:
Did your room swallow you up–we have not heard from you in a couple of days. I am working on my room along side of you. I am close, but we were crazy to think we could get this complete in 3 days!!!
First, I have to agree with Carol ~ WTF was I thinking that I could do this in 3 days?!?! Fool.
So I wanted to let Carol know – and ya’ll! I didn’t forget ya’ll, sheez – that I’m still plugging away on my scrap/home office space whenever I have time. I was out of town for a few days and also got tied up with work, but I’ll be getting some time in this weekend. It’s almost midnight Friday night and I’ve been in here for a few hours tonight.
I’m too embarrassed to admit how much of that time has been spent organizing my … erm … MASSIVE Basic Grey collection. It takes a long time to alphabetize papers from, like, 50 collections, MM KAY?? Now before you choke on your gummy bear (yeah, I watch you late at night at your scrap desk … I know about the bears, the Diet Coke, and let’s just say the empty brown tissue cups in the trash that smell like chocolate and peanut butter don’t lie) … I have figured out a way to justify papers from 50 Basic Grey collections. And it goes a little something like this:
I’ve been scrapping since 2001. It’s now 2011. That’s 10 years. So if you divide 50 collections by 10 years, that’s only 5 collections per year. Which I personally think shows a great deal of RESTRAINT, don’t you? I don’t think I should be criticized for having too much Basic Grey. I think I should be heralded for having ONLY 50 collections.
I also think I should be applauded for helping to keep BASIC GREY in business for all these years. Somebody has to do it, right? It may as well be me. I will make the sacrifice for you. I will buy the Basic Grey each year, at least 5 collections, so you won’t feel like you have to.
So the bottom line here is that I don’t have too much Basic Grey. Those who would care to criticize me: Maybe you need to ask yourself why you don’t have enough? You need to buy more because until you have papers from 50 collections in 10 years, I don’t even want to be seen with you. Not on the message boards. Not at CKU. Not at the scrapbook expo. If I see you at Michaels, I look past you like I don’t know you.
In a nutshell, you’ve let me down. So get busy on the Basic Grey Collection Buying and get back to me when you’ve caught up. I’ll decide then if we can be friends again.
Now that THAT is settled, back to scrapbook room organization. Tonight I’ve also been trying to include some decorative touches in my room. As much as we all believe that shelves of Stickles and jars of ribbon are decoration in themselves, it hit me that I could add some other pretty things that I like to look at. Things to soften the edges and to add other parts of my personality to the space.
I know you’re gonna’ ask for photos and I have been taking them along the way but I’m not posting any tonight because I’m too lazy. At this point, I may just save all the “before” and “in progress” photos for the Big Reveal, which isn’t too far off. Promise :)
I’m not going to tiptoe around this, okay? I got pretty much nothing done on my room today.
NOW.
If you’re going to throw things at me, here are your choices:
– Chocolate
– Xanax
– Martini fixings
– Scrapbook supplies
– either things I want like BASIC GREY embellies or SMASH BOOK accessories
– or things that won’t hurt very much when they make contact, e.g., eyelets, glitter, ribbon, and the like (shop carefully, please)
Once you’re done being mad at me … what, you’re still mad??? Jeesh. I can give you some sad eyes. Oh! Better yet! I’ll have my dog give you some sad eyes. He gets stuff past me all the time with those freakin’ sad eyes. “Now, Mom, I know I barked all night when you had to get up for work at 5am but …” and – bladow – SAD EYES. Shoot. He got me again. Can’t be mad.
So … I had to work today. A lot. My plan this morning was to work for 30 minutes, organize for 30 minutes. However, that didn’t happen … too much work. It’s 10pm and I just wrapped it up. If I’d stopped to organize every 30 minutes, I’d have been working until 6am tomorrow, LOL. Which is probably what YOU would’ve preferred but, srsly, have some pity on me, willya?
But now I’m panicking. I have ONE DAY left to get my room done!
BLURG.
I mean, it’s not like the room self-destructs after Day 3 or anything. It’s just that after tomorrow, I’m tied up for several days and I want this room dunzo. I’m SO tired of putting it off and not getting it done. How many times have I gotten this portion or that portion of my room organized, but never the whole entire thing? Lots. Very lots.
I want my scrap space organized so I can find things and be creative. I want my home office organized so I can work efficiently.
I really thought this was going to be my time :( There’s nothing I can do about work – in fact, I’m inordinately grateful that I have so much work right now, because the life of an independent contractor can get scary at times – when the work doesn’t come.
But but but …
You know what I mean, right?
So now I’m going to decide between these two plans:
1. Start drinking coffee now at 10:30 pm, pray for a second wind, and get a bunch accomplished late into the night. Work while there are fewer distractions. Sleep in a bit in the morning, and finish up tomorrow afternoon.
2. Chill the rest of this evening, watch the “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” next-to-last episode I taped earlier tonight, then turn in early (well, early for me). Get up early tomorrow and power through everything in one day.
I’ll let you know tomorrow which option I went with :) And for those of you who asked, I’m going back to add photos to my past entries that show a bit of what I’m dealing with. But the best photos will be posted tomorrow of PROGRESS and hopefully SUCCESS.
HERE is an interesting discussion about it by the Peas. I know you probably think I’m some scrapbook industry big shot who jets off to CHA every year and knows all “the insiders” … but I’ve never been to CHA … so it was good to hear from those who have been, or are going this year.
What’s that again? Oh. You DON’T think I’m some scrapbook industry big shot? You figured I had never been to CHA because who in the Sam Hell am I but some small-time, paper sniffer, mommy blogger? Erm … well, sorry. Ahem. {Aren’t you, like, SO embarrassed for me right now?}.
Anyway, back to the Basic Grey. Since as you so clearly pointed out, I am *not* a scrapbook industry insider, I don’t know what to to make of them not showing at CHA for the first time since God was a cadet. I think I’m going to take it at face value and assume it was just a wise business decision on their part. If they’re not seeing a return on their investment at CHA, why go? As someone said in the 2peas thread, Basic Grey is one of the most popular scrapbook companies out there. I don’t think it’s going to hurt their overall sales.
I just found this from Kelly Goree on her blog entry dated 6/25/11:
Yes, it’s true we won’t be at CHA Summer as we’re taking a little “stay-cation” but we have FOUR new lines that will debut JULY 1st!!
As for the FOUR NEW COLLECTIONS … are you ready? I personally think the best way to view them is to watch the videos on the Basic Grey YOU TUBE CHANNEL. Scroll down in the blue box on the right and you’ll see all four new collections.
For those of you cheeky monkeys who are at work, being naughty and looking up scrapbook stuff while you’re supposed to be working … you probably can’t watch videos without getting caught by your boss, huh? So I’m going to link to the 4 collections on the Basic Grey website:
[Note: I posted this blog entry on 7/1/11 at 1am. As of now, there is nothing on the Basic Grey pages I’ve linked to. But they’re supposed to be posted 7/1/11 so if they aren’t there when you click, it’s not my fault. I’m going to bed now. A blogger has to sleep, ya know.]
So here’s my review. I’m not overwhelmed but I’m not underwhelmed either. I think that makes me kind of whelmed. As a whole, I give the 4 collections a B-. They’re not my favorite lines ever, but I like them better than some recent ones that I haven’t cared for much at all.
Picadilly and Indie Bloom are my favorites. I like the color combos, especially the black contrasted with the pastel brights of Indie Bloom. I like the new Title Stickers; I think that’s a great idea. I like how Basic Grey keeps changing up the kind of embellishments they offer and that there’s such a variety so everyone should be able to find several things they want.
Little Black Dress is very pretty and classy, just not something I’d see myself using much. But if I had prom, wedding, or heritage photos to scrap right now, I’d be all over it. I think the black/taupe is a nice change-up from the typical black/white or black/cream.
Nordic Holiday did not blow my dress up at all. It seems to me a really weird combination of colors (too many colors?) and the patterns and graphics seemed 90s-ish. THAT SAID, I loved the papers that looked like sweaters. I also have to say that 98% of the time, when I first see a new Basic Grey line and I don’t care for it, KELLY GOREE scraps with it and changes my mind. That girl do some voodoo with her Basic Grey and she casts a spell on me. It’s freaky deaky. So work your magic Kelly and make me love Nordic Holiday, gurl.
Your turn: Share your thoughts about Basic Grey not going to CHA Summer 2011 and what you like/don’t like about these 4 new lines.
At least two times a year when all the new things from CHA are coming in, we get TONS of things moved into the Memory Works clearance section. CHECK IT OUT!

Pssst! Word on the street (and by that I mean “scrapbook message boards”) is that MICHAELS now carries the ever-so-popular COPIC markers!
While you can apparently get them for a cheaper price at some online stores, at Michaels you can (at least at this point) use a 40% coupon not to mention the instant gratification. Plus you don’t have that pesky shipping charge. {I notice they have some Copic tips on their website HERE}.
I don’t know nuthin’ about Copics myself. I’m not a cardmaker (oh, the cards I’ve attempted are just dreadful … you should see them … a crime against humanity, I tell ya’).
I’m just a scrapper. Who tries to avoid getting hooked on new things like Copics which anyone can plainly see are a slippery slope of wanting more and more in every color then needing a place to store them and a book to record all your colors and … PHEW! Before you know it, they’ve taken over your life and Copics are all you can think about. Mmmmm … pretty colors …
“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”
It’s just something I’ve purposely tried to avoid. See, the thing is, okay, well, erm … confession time:
My name is Erika and I’ve been addicted to Stickles.
My name is Erika and I’ve been addicted to acrylic stamps.
My name is Erika and I’ve been addicted to paper stacks.
My name is Erika and I *AM* addicted to Basic Grey …
… and October Afternoon
… and Simple Stories
… and THICKERS {Lordy, lordy, Thickers, why can’t I QUIT ya’???}
So. I am trying to be older and wiser here with the Copics. I’m trying to be all Maya Angelou and say, “When you know better, you do better.” Well, I know I have Scrap-Addictive Personality Disorder so the last thing I need to do is latch on to another new thang like these here Copics.
But for the rest of ya’alls?? Pssst … word on the street is that Michaels now sells Copics … ;)
