If you’re not sure what True Scrap 5 is or would like some help making up your mind, I’ve written a mega post about it HERE.
I’ll be attending this amazing online event and hope you can too! Would love to see you there. The chat rooms are SO fun! Not to mention all the learnin’ that goes on :)
Lain Ehmann from Layout A Day does a free online scrapinar every month. The one for June is TODAY and it’s called “6×6 Pads for 12×12 Pages” which is something I’m excited to learn more about.
I’ve been slowly collecting 6×6 pads this year for use in my Project Life album. But for all those cute 6×6 papers not being used in my PL, I would love to incorporate them into my 12×12 layouts. Can’t wait to see what Lain and her guest Lisa Echerd have in store for us.
The live event happens in just a couple of hours (8pm EST which is 5pm PST/my time). I plan to be there – how about you?
No worries if you can’t make it tonight. Just sign up at the link above and you’ll be e-mailed the full replay within a day or so :)
PS: I almost forgot! ECHO PARK is sponsoring today’s webinar. They will be giving one lucky attendee THREE 6×6 Echo Park paper pads! There, did I convince you to attend?!?! Just sign up here :)
Wanted to let you know that May’s FREE scrapinar (a no-cost event) by Lain Ehmann has been announced … and I’m pretty sure you’re gonna’ want to sign up :)
Monica Bradford, washi guru, will be joining Lain on 05-17-13. According to Lain, “Monica will wow you with her prowess as she wrangles her washi and makes it do her bidding. You’ll never look at washi the same way again!”
Here’s What You’ll Learn:
~ ALL NEW tips and techniques for using washi tape on your projects
~ How to incorporate popular trends using washi
~ How to create your own washi tape
~ Storage ideas for your rolls
~ And more!
Click here to learn more or sign-up for the FREE scrapinar! By clicking, you are not committing to anything. It just takes you to an info and sign up page – you can enter your e-mail address if you’d like to join in! If not, no worries. Just close the page :) Btw, don’t worry if you can’t make the exact class time. No prob. Lain will e-mail you a free replay after the event. Coolio.
I also wanted to mention that if you use the above link to sign up, you’ll be offered a coupon code to save $10.95 on Monica’s FIRST washi class called “Washi Tape Wahoo!” Whereas if you just go straight to that sign-up page, you’ll pay full price. No, no, noooooo …. we can’t have that! So use “the Free scrapinar” linkee above, girlie.
If you can’t wait until Friday 05-17-13 to get started learning and having fun with Monica, here’s one more link for ya’:
Monica Bradford is a fun and funny chick – as you can probably tell from her picture above. I love everything she does and I think you’ll enjoy her, too. And for such a low cost {ummm … FREE!}, you’d be kinda’ cray-cray to not at least check out the upcoming webinar “Washi Wahoo Too!”
I’m all signed up myself. See you there, my scrappy friend :)
After attending my first LOAD event in February 2013 – see my post HERE – I’m a true believer. It’s the BEST online scrapbooking event I’ve ever attended. Well, okay, it’s tied for 1st place with TRUE SCRAP :P
I wasn’t able to keep up with blogging about LOAD 213 (Feb ’13) but I did get tons of layouts done that month. They are some of my favorite layouts I’ve ever done. I think it’s a combination of the prompts received from Lain and the supportive community who makes you feel like your ideas are valid and appreciated.
The gallery is EXTREMELY active so even if you’re like me and not able to physically do a layout every day, you can at least collapse on the couch at the end of every day and marvel at the layouts posted by other LOADers. Inspiration station, baby! And the message board was LOADs of fun, too (har har).
It’s time for LOAD again in May 2013 – so this one is called LOAD 513.
It runs during the entire month of May and here is what you get if you join:
31 days of brand-new video prompts and lessons, guaranteed to bust you out of any scrapbooking rut, bring a smile to your face, and make your hair shine!
Exclusive message board for LOAD members only where you can connect and chat with the coolest scrappers on the Web!
Private gallery for our members where you share your daily creations, win prizes, and strut your stuff!
31 never-before-seen sample layouts!
Random surPRIZES, Hugh* sightings, and fun for all!
*Lain may or may not have a serious thang for Hugh Jackman … See why?
Participation is capped for all LOADs and there are only 50 spots left for this one – it’s a very popular event. The most awesome thing is that I have a special deal for you: $10 off the $50 price. Do the math: That’s only $1.29 a day for all the goodness listed above.
And after 31 days, how would it feel to have 31 layouts?!?!? I mean, that’s an entire album. A satisfying stack. A titling tower of layouts!
I’m a ScrapHappy.org member so I get all LOADs for free – I will be there! If I were you, I’d just go sign up for LOAD 513 right now. Because if you don’t, the end of April and them May 1st is going to be here, everyone will be talking about LOAD, you’ll get really jazzed about joining in … and it will be full.
Every LOAD has a theme. For the February session, it was ScrapHappy. This time it’s “Get a Clue! Investigating the Mysteries of Your Life.” Sounds like fun. I can’t wait to get started!
Speaking of which, there is no special prep you have to do for LOAD – no specific products to buy or pre-work to do. It would help to start May 1 with a clean desk and join the message board and gallery as soon as you sign up for LOAD. The message board actually gets hopping before the event starts. But that’s it! So if you need to make a big dent in your stash, LOAD is perfect for you. {Or if you need an excuse to scrapbook shop, we’ll encourage you there as well … bwahahahaha!}
Only 8 more days . . . only 20 spots left . . . time to sign up!
What is LOAD? Yeah, I’ve been hearing about “load” for years and never really paid attention, honestly. I knew it stood for Layout a Day and that you complete 28 layouts in a month. But that’s about where my knowledge stopped.
Eventually, through other classes I took with the creator Lain Ehmann – most notably TRUE SCRAP 4 – I learned more about what LOAD/Layout a Day really is, how it works, and how amazing it is. And now I’M JACKED, PEOPLE!!! I can’t wait for February to get here!
I thought I’d tell YOU about LOAD213 (the 213 stands for February 2013) and see if you’d like to join me :)
28 days of brand-new video prompts and lessons, guaranteed to bust you out of any scrapbooking rut, bring a smile to your face, and make your hair shine!
Exclusive message board for LOAD members only where you can connect and chat with the coolest scrappers on the Web!
Private gallery for our members where you share your daily creations, win prizes, and strut your stuff!
Insiders-only interview with Gretchen Rubin, best-selling author of The Happiness Project. Listen as she shares her secrets on living a happier life (and why scrapbookers have a jumpstart on the ordinary people)
Random surPRIZES, Hugh sightings, and fun for all!
SPACE IS LIMITED!
To Preserve the Intimate and Personal Atmosphere of This Event,
Participation Is Capped!
PRIZES!?!?! Did she say PRIZES? I’m so there.
If you want to learn even more, check out THIS QUICK VIDEO by Lain. Her enthusiasm is infectious.
I’ve already joined the gallery and message board. The other attendees are posting and prepping. Again, the excitement is infectious.
When you read the reviews and endorsements HERE from past “LOAD’ers” (ha), it really makes you want to take part. {Scroll down a bit to see them}. I mean, in reality . . . I work full-time, have kids, activities, bizzy bizzy life. Am I really going to complete an ACTUAL layout a day? I don’t know. I’m realistic and thinking not.
But like one of the reviews said, the daily prompt is a quick and motivating way to start your day. Go create your layout right then and there. See what you can accomplish, right? I figure even if I get only 10 layouts done (hmm . . . there are 8 weekend days in there and maybe I’ll get lucky on 2 weekdays, lol), that’s 10 more than I probably would’ve done otherwise.
And PROJECT LIFE layouts COUNT! So I’m golden there :) Those of you who can get 28 layouts down, my hat’s off to you. I’m sure you’ll inspire me and maybe I actually CAN do it. Who knows?
Also I’m a sucker for forums and galleries. I totally {heart} talking to other scrappers day-to-day in a community of support. Everyone’s in the same boat and, from what I already know about Lain’s SCRAPHAPPY* community that I also belong to, it is truly “the nicest group of scrapbookers on the internet.”
*By the way, because I’m a member of SCRAPHAPPY.org, I didn’t even have to pay for LOAD – members attend all LOAD’s for freeeeee!!! That was one of the things that sold me to join in the first place.
So check out all the information about LOAD and think about joining us. But don’t think too long. Lain caps enrollment and the last I heard, there were only 20 spots left. Hope to see you there!
If you have any questions about LOAD, please post below in Comments :)
Hey there – First of all, I wanted to apologize for not posting the rest of my True Scrap 4 class reviews in time for today’s deadline for a cheaper price (see below). But the craziness of the Christmas season took over . . . then I had a sick kiddo . . . then I got strep throat :(
I’m going to continue reviewing the classes as I feel better, but I wanted to remind you that after midnight PST tonight (12-25-12), the price increases by $3 per class. Even at $12.95, they’re a great deal though.
I was especially excited (but somewhat apprehensive, honestly) to take this class: “THE ART OF LAYERING” by Nichol Magouirk (scroll down til you find it). I’m a pretty simple scrapper and layering? Yeah, not a talent I naturally posses. When I’ve tried to do layering before, my layout ends up looking like a red hot mess.
I’ve never taken a class by Nichol but I’ve always heard great things about her classes offered at Two Peas. I figured if anyone could teach me layering, Nichol could, LOL! So here is what’s included in the class, along with my random thoughts about it:
– A 38-minute video, which is on the longer side for a True Scrap class.
– Beautiful, long, and detailed handout with color photos, instructions, and supply lists.
– Great techniques Nichol uses to make her amazing layered layouts.
– I learned a great new way to computer journal on stickers (super happy about that one), a cool new way to use border stickers, and about the art of “tucking.”
– She made me want to buy a TINY ATTACHER by Tim Holtz.
– Nichol uses a lot of the embellishments I already have, adding them on to the page in ways I wouldn’t think of on my own – but I’ll be coming back to this video again and again to remind myself how to use what I have.
– As a bonus – because it’s a video – I finally learned how to properly say “Magouirk” . . . hee hee.
I have to say that one technique/layout was a bit too much for me. One attendee in Chat called it Extreme Diecutting. But if you’re into Silhouette, shadows, etc., you will LOVE it.
You know how scrapbook classes are so different, and different things appeal to different scrappers? This is not a class I would normally have taken. I’m a simple scrapper for a reason {well, other than the fact that I have as much design talent in my whole body as people like Nichol have in the tip of her pinky finger} . . . it’s because FOR ME it’s about the photos and journaling.
For others, it’s about making each page a work of art that stretches your talents and gives you a massive creative outlet. I’ll be honest and say that this class would be more geared toward the latter, if you intend to copy Nichol’s layouts or style very closely.
That said, I think it’s worth taking even for simple scrappers like me. I can take her overall concepts and pieces of her ideas to improve my own layouts, relax a little, and have more fun. Oh, and use product! ‘Cuz I’m a scrapbook product hoarder and lawdy knows I need to use up some product (so I can . . . . erm . . . shop some more).
I have mad respect for people who can scrapbook with layers and make layouts that are so gorgeous, I would want to frame them. It’s like a scrapbook isn’t good enough :) So overall, I do recommend you take Nichol’s class, “The Art of Layering.” She is an amazingly talented gal and now I see what all the fuss was about.
As much as I love Nichol now, and her amazing scrapbooking advice and techniques, even she is not going to get me machine stitching on my pages . . . not even with the cutest teal-colored Hello Kitty sewing machine ever! {There is a link to where you can buy one for yourself}.
Gosh, I look back at her layouts on the class handout and I’m just amazed at her talent. What an inspiring scrapbooker! Color me a Nichol Magouirk fan from now on :)
If you have taken or do take Nichol’s class, please leave a comment and let me know what YOU thought about it! I’m sure readers would love all perspectives as they decide whether or not to take this class.
Don’t forget: Buy True Scrap 4 individual classes by 12/25/12 and save $3 per class {$9.95 instead of $12.95}.
Back in October 2012, I talked about how excited I was to take part in my first live “True Scrap” online scrapbooking event. I posted about HERE, HERE, and HERE. And HERE is what started my love affair with True Scrap . . . an individual class I took from True Scrap 3 by Shimelle Laine called “The Perfect Collection” . . . still hands down the most useful scrapbook class I’ve ever taken.
… so I get a tad obsessive. Jeez. Didya’ notice the name of my blog by chance?
Anyway, that experience did not go as planned sadly. I ended up having to be out of town that weekend. I’d already registered for the event, of course, but figured at least I could watch the classes “live” from my iPhone while we were driving or I had down time on the trip.
Howevah! That didn’t work either. For whatever reason, I couldn’t watch on my iPhone either. Shooks. So I was out of luck. When I got home from the trip, real life took over . . . as it has a tendency to do . . . and I kind of skimmed through some classes but didn’t really “take” them, iykwim. I never wrote the class reviews I promised either (bad baaad blogger!!).
But with the fact that “TRUE SCRAP 4” individual classes are now – as of today 12/17/12 – available for individual purchase, it has spurred me to finally sit down and take the classes. I’ll be providing reviews in the coming days to hopefully help you in deciding if you’d like to take any of the classes.
There is one reason to NOT wait for my reviews and just sign up already: The regular price on these classes is $12.95, but from 12/17-12/25, purchasers can save $3 a class and only pay $9.95 per class!! Merry Christmas to you, am I right!?!
That is a great deal any way you slice it. So sign up now. Signs up later. Whatevs. Just sign up.

Erin Bassett
Monica Bradford
Kelli Crowe
Laura Denison
Jennifer Gallacher
Nic Howard

2. When you sign up through any of my links, you’ll receive a pretty quick e-mail straight from Lain with a link to your class(es).
3. You have the option to just watch the class video, or to watch it as if you were there “live” with all of the before and after audio and the chat to accompany it.
4. There is also a link to the chat transcript, and oftentimes a class handout (less note-taking, yee haw!) with links and other helpful things; this varies from class to class and not all classes have handouts.
So I’ve taken my first class and am off to finish writing my review of it – stay tuned!
Not only did my SIMPLE STORIES SN@P ORDER arrive, but tonight the True Scrap 4 event kicks off with an online Pajama Party. TS4 attendees will gather in the web classroom to chat, get to know each other, ask questions, and make sure all the technical stuff works before class starts.
Lain {our fearless leader} also promises a BIG PRIZE tonight! She just sent out a list of all the prizes to be offered throughout the True Scrap 4 event and it’s amazing. Hope I win something!
If you haven’t signed up yet to join us and would like more info on True Scrap 4 – please CLICK HERE. Or if you’re ready to sign up, you can just click on that cute red superhero icon in my right sidebar … over there —>
Hope to see you in class! I’ll be posting class and event reviews here as much as I can. They will mostly be next week though as I have a busy weekend with family stuff. Every spare moment, I’ll either be taking TS4 classes . . . or fondling my Sn@p goodies ;)
One awesome thing about True Scrap 4 is that I’ll have “forever access” to the classes and can easily watch them whenever I have time . . . as many times as I want.
Another cool thing is that, if I’m not totally happy with the event, I can get a full refund if I notify Lain before the last class is over on Saturday. That makes me feel better – that I can get my $$ back if needed.
Except I’m pretty dang sure I’m gonna’ love it <3 Yay!!! Happy Scrappy Weekend!!!
Lain Ehmann over at Layout a Day.com just announced her next FREE SCRAPINAR for October and I think you’re going to love it!
Hmmm … You know that little voice in your head that talks to you but no one else can hear … yet *I* know what it’s saying right now? It’s saying, “What in Blue Cherry Hill is a ‘scrapinar’???” And since I heard your little voice alllll the way from here, I’m going to answer: A scrapinar is an online event where everyone meets up at the same bat time on the same bat channel (e.g., same website – which will be provided to you when you sign up). Lain speaks to us live, then she introduces a pre-recorded mini-scrapbook class or seminar. While all of us “students” are listening to Lain and watching the video, in another box on our computer screen, we are having an ongoing “live” (real time) chat with Lain and each other about the topic. We ask questions, make comments, share our own ideas, make jokes, whatever.
And the beauty part is that if you get interrupted or miss it altogether, you will have a certain window of time AFTER the scrapinar to log in, watch Lain, watch the video, and read the chat transcript. Lain also shares any links, worksheets, etc. that were discussed during the scrapinar. BUT – aint’t there always a but? – you MUST register before the event to have access to it afterward (i.e., you can’t see if after the fact if you didn’t sign up to attend originally). You don’t need Skype or anything. Lain sends you instructions on how to access the “classroom” and they’re really super easy. Hey, I’m about the biggest techno-boob out there and I managed to figure it out. Just sayin’ …
The REAL beauty part is … this is all FREE if you can flippin’ believe it! I know, right?
So here are the Top 5 Reasons You Should Sign Up:
1. On Tuesday, 10/02/12, she is having Jennifer Woodbury, a creative team member for Becky Higgins’ Project Life! She will share “Project Life Step-by-Step.”
2. As soon as you sign up, you’ll be offered a special deal that you can only get by signing up for this particular scrapinar. {Hint: It involves Becky Higgins, it’s a great deal, and you won’t want to miss it}.
3. If you already love Lain, you get to spend more time with her. And if you’ve never “met” Lain, what are you waiting for guuurrrrll? She’s fun, upbeat, and always hooks us scrappers up with cool stuff.
4. The October scrapinar uses the same “live chat” and video technology that Lain uses for the TRUE SCRAP events. So this is the perfect test drive to see how it works, get any bugs out, etc. before True Scrap later in October*
5. Um, *I* will be there! DUH!

And I think you’re going to be as excited as I am. There’s a buncha’ good ones!
I just found about about the True Scrap events recently {do ya’ every feel like … “Well, where the heck have *I* been?!?!” That would be me}. I had already missed True Scrap 1 and 2 but was able to take some a la carte TS3 classes this summer and WOWZA. Very impressive. Very fun. Very cool.
HERE is my review of my favorite class which was presented by Shimelle Laine. At some time after the live True Scrap events are done, the individual classes become available for separate purchase. This is a great way to check them out and see if they’re for you … which they will be, I promise.
But now I want the interactive, 2-day, hundreds of scrappers converging online at once, entire amazing experience. I’m going to sign up for “True Scrap 4” and get the whole bomb diggity. Fo’ sho’.
Every True Scrap event has a theme and this time it’s super heroes. It’s so cute how she put little masks on all the instructors. And in a Full Circle Scrapbook Moment, it reminds me of the super fun Glitter Girl series that Shimelle does.
True Scrap 4: It’s already in my day planner. The work decks will be cleared and no other plans made. A little mini vacation, some “me time” if you will. {And you KNOW I will!}
As the True Scrap site says:
Not sure what this whole True Scrap thing is? Well, it’s the galaxy’s ONLY live, virtual scrapbooking event! Produced by yours truly, it encompasses two days and almost 20 hours of non-stop scrapbooking and paper crafting fun. Classes, make-and-takes, goodie bags, a PJ party… all from the comfort of your own home, all with 300 or so of your best scrappy buddies!
So check it out. The instructors looks great. I’m getting so excited and will be posting more about “TRUE SCRAP 4” so stay tuned!
Which of the instructors would you MOST love to take a class with (because they are all great)?
Yay, July 1 and payday is here!! I get to sign up for some True Scrap 3 classes :) {If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, here is where I explained True Scrap 3 individual classes}.
I know you may have questions about what exactly is included in these classes before you fork over the dough for them. I’ve been wondering the same thing. So I did some research into the class I’m MOST interested in – Shimelle Laine’s “The Perfect Collection” – and here is what I found out.
First of all, in all True Scrap 3 classes you get PERMANENT (as in … forevah!) access to the class video. Just make sure to bookmark the page after you purchase so you can always find it. I have a folder in my bookmarks for Online Classes like the SKETCH SUPPORT one I took from Allison Davis and can refer back to them whenever I need to. The videos with True Scrap 3 are usually 30-40 minutes long and then you also get a .pdf file that you can keep forever … and ever :)
Here is what Shimelle says on her blog about “The Perfect Collection” class:
Last spring I shared my workshop for getting the most out of a collection pack with the crowd at True Scrap 3 – which is always great fun and a sort of online scrapbooking convention with so many different classes and ideas to take in. I know the whole shebang is a rather big purchase and not everyone’s style, so if you really fancied just a few classes, then now is the time for you! All the True Scrap 3 classes are now available individually.
My workshop, The Perfect Collection, is all about taking one collection pack and using it until it’s all gone – and I walk you through my process for making a full album from a collection pack. The video is just shy of forty minutes, plus there is a PDF with cutting guide diagrams and pictures of how those pieces of paper became the finished scrapbook pages. Other workshops available cover all sorts of topics, from embellishment and page design to writing, photography, creativity, stamping, symbolism, Project Life, digital and hybrid crafting and mixed media art techniques. You can sign up for any number of classes you like.
OMG, I get so excited reading that description! I know exactly which collection I’m going to start with … and you’re SO going to laugh at me because I’ve been hoarding this for a loooooong time. YEARS, I tell ya’! Have you been around the scrapbooking world long enough to remember the “WILD SAFFRON” collection by K&Company?
HA! I fell in love with this collection right off the bat and gobbled pieces of it up whenever I could. I would say a stack of 40% Michaels coupons were spent on it for sure. I would buy the paper pad, a set of letter stickers, or an embellishment pack each week until I had virtually every piece. Yes, I love it THAT much.
To see how many years I’ve been hoarding this stuff, look at these old entries and note the date they were posted: Hating the Scrap Lull and Michaels Finds. EEK! How embaraskin’. The only time I ever used any of it was to make an EXPLOSION BOX for my mother-in-law … but she’s pretty dang special :)
I’ve always thought that Wild Saffron would be perfect to make an entire album with. The theme is so open and easy to use, and the colors go with the kinds of photos I tend to take – lots of primary colors mixed with browns and aquas. So … I *NEED* to take Shimelle’s class, don’t you think? My mind is just spinning with the possibilities ~ vacation albums, a year in review, a series of sports season layouts, etc. Do you have any kits or packs you’ve been wanting to use, either as a whole album or for a variety of layouts … so you just USE it? Instead of admiring it time after time in it’s clear plastic wrapper? LOL
From what I’m reading on the message boards, Shimelle’s class is VERY popular and people are loving it. They’re pulling out the paper packs, monthly kits, and theme sets THEY’VE been hoarding, cutting ’em up, and making tons of layouts! That, to me, is the best recommendation you can get!
If you’d like to join me in Shimelle’s class or any sign up for any of the other fabulous True Scrap 3 classes, click here to view more details.
YAY! LAIN EHMANN from LAYOUT A DAY has just announced that “True Scrap 3” classes are now available for individual purchase. HUZZA HUZZA!
If you haven’t heard about True Scrap 3, uh, where have you BEEN?!?! Juuuust kidding ;) TS3 is a set of online classes with great instructors and speakers you may have heard of like SHIMELLE LAINE, BECKY HIGGINS, NOELL HYMAN (from the PAPERCLIPPING.COM scrapbooking podcasts … love her!), and many more.
Back in the day {aka April 2012 … but that was AGES ago when you’re waiting for something, jeez!}, you had to purchase the entire TRUE SCRAP 3 EVENT and the cost was $147.
Sure, it’s a stupendous value for the money {uh, hello? 15 instructors and 5 virtual make-n-takes!}. But I for one can’t afford to lay out (ha ha, get it? layout???) that kind of dough these days. So I’ve been patiently waiting for this announcement: Now you can buy the classes “a la carte” – for you non-Frenchies, that means “with a separate price for each item on the menu”.
For me, that translates in English to: “Hollah! Now I can afford it!” I know I’ll definitely be buying the Shimelle Laine class called “The Perfect Collection: Using your favorite collection pack to the very last scrap.” ‘Cuz lawdy knows I got a zillion collection packs here to use up. How about you? Can I get an “Amen!”
Stay tuned for more talk about True Scrap 3 Individual Classes. I will post more soon. For now, you can click here to view more details and maybe buy some classes, eh?
Sign up soon, before you get distracted by the UPS man bringing you more scrap pretties, LOL! The price for each class is set at $9.99 — for a limited time. On 7/7 the price will increase to $12.95 per class.
Come back and let me know what you signed up for. Maybe we’ll have the same classes – we can share a locker and pass notes during class ;)
